This isn’t bitching so much as a curiosity. Here in Lemmy.ml, would it be considered abusive for an admin to actively participate in a discussion, then get upset and delete the same comments they themselves have been replying to?
I’d just like to clarify the administration posture of this instance. There are lots of accusations of unfairness here. I don’t know if that’s an individualistic thing or a matter of policy.
Mainly asking so I can more easily identify what discussions are not safe to participate in.
Cheers!
👌 thanks for your contribution to the discussion
What discussion lol. You’re complaining about moderators moderating.
What
I’m questioning the optics and impact of moderators/admins participating in discussions while removing opinions counter to theirs, sometimes under false pretenses. If you want free and open discussion, that’s not how you want an instance to operate, it’s just another form of authoritarianism and censorship in its own right.
You still haven’t shown any examples of these removed comments not whether or not they were breaking instance rules.
This post specifically is what made me think about it
But that same admin has a history of posting highly questionable information and deleting anyone who disagrees.
asks for example
provides example
reports comment
I didn’t report shit get fucked
You offering or…?
I believe that Davel acted correctly and with professionalism in this example. He removed racist, misinformational, and reactionary content while countering with sources to debunk those views. This is not only appropriate for a moderator but going above and beyond.
Calling comparing to Xi Jinping to Pooh bear racist is hilariously victim complexy. It has nothing to do with his skin and everything to do with his goofy lookin face.
“Misinformation”
You mean he’s pretending Hong Kong was super into being subjugated by China on live tv
Or pretending tiananmen square didn’t happen
Like, cmon. It’s basically just CCP propaganda, and even that’s ok if you’re not going through and removing comments that disagree with it
Oh sorry, it seems like you were responding under the assumption that I’m not also a Marxist-Leninist. But yes:
Comparing a Chinese man to a beady-eyed yellow bear is racist
Polls in Hong Kong reveal that 90%+ of the population preferred remaining part of China
“Tiananmen Square” is a place. In China, the event is known as the June 4th Incident. It was not a massacre of innocent protestors. The protestors in the square left peacefully, violence broke out elsewhere. Almost half of fatalities were military and police. They were fighting an armed insurrection, and it happened pretty much everywhere in Beijing except Tiananmen Square.
If I was a Lemmy.ml admin I would remove your comments and ban you after sending this reply.
