Gratitude thread - I should’ve asked from the beginning, do we like this idea still?

First Sunday sleep in in a long time

      We do.
Gratitude - the cats were very warm, even if they were the indirect cause of the mug smash.
I found what I thought was the mug with a matching spoon on Amazon but didn’t buy it there and then because my credit card had expired since I last used them. And when I went back and checked it wasn’t exactly the same one (or as close as).
I found the matching mug with a spoon on eBay for two thirds the price so I grabbed it.
Despite the forecast it’s a lovely sunny day.
My aunt and cousin (who also haven’t seen the place) called earlier “what are you doing today?” So they’re coming down to see me, the new place and of course the cats. 😂

It is currently sunny outside. I’ve been up and productive, including a 4 hour overtime shift and stopping at the supermarket to buy biscuit ingredients. Now I’m relaxing on the couch with a purring cat.

Sleep like $4!t while travelling, but so so so grateful for my ability to (travel). I’ve always ruminated about what soul goes into what body when we’re born—existential fluff—I could have been anyone, anywhere. Bettter, worse, the same…

And I was typing this, this was the coffee I got…

      Rough Guys Coffee, Singapore

Definitely quite a few bad times, but overall, even when it’s rough, I’ve still been incredibly blessed.

I bought a temperature sensor for my room because I was curious about how cold it actually gets, and how fast it loses heat, and it’s actually not as bad as I thought it was. Doesn’t seem to go below about 12 or so, although I think that’s mostly down to body heat, the electric blanket, and my computer all slightly warming the room. But then again, my bathroom remains quite stable at around 15 regardless, so maybe there is an itty bit of insulation somewhere

If anybody’s wondering why I don’t run the ducted heating constantly, it’s because of this:

The temperature sensor is in the hallway, which doesn’t have a heating vent, so once you turn it on, it will pretty much run until summer, turning my room particularly for some reason into a mini marble bar (localised entirely within my bedroom! No you may not see it.), and they absolutely refuse to install either a temperature sensor into a bedroom, or a heating vent into the hallway.

Bonus: the temperature sensor in the bathroom (no heating vent + a giant skylight):

Tonight feels really fucking nippy though, even with the heater on, the electric blanket on full boar, and a temperature reading of 20°. It feels like -1 outside, according to the BOM boys, so I guess that’s justified

I have a new plan for my German plate - Pfeffurnusse biscuits. Looks like they have a similar flavour profile to the suggested Spekulatius, but are a bit thicker and either iced or dusted with icing sugar instead of having a fancy press/roller to make them look pretty.

From what I can tell based on my superficial Google searching Speculaas are Dutch, but there are also versions made in parts of Germany under a slightly different name. Once my textured roller arrives I might try some of those for myself anyway, as I’ll be looking for all sorts of rolled biscuit recipies to justify buying it!

I know it’s not what the name means, but I’d be so tempted to shape these as little white mice

I did a mouse-shaped-biscuit Google search and it is definitely doable - sliced almond ears seem to be the preferred option.

Bugger. Smashed one of my favourite mugs when it slipped off the edge of the bedside table 😭.
Fortunately Amazon has it - with a bonus spoon at that - so I can replace it.

If you’re not watching the olympics worth chucking on in the background. Not a MASSIVE sports guy but it’s interesting as fuck! Also we’re beating America in the medal tally, and we didn’t even get our own boat for the opening ceremony!

We’re doing a sleep school for a week starting tomorrow. I hope we can get something out of it as the boys do have some trouble going to sleep and a lot of regular sleep settling advice doesn’t work because you can’t let a kid cry it out whilst there’s another kid asleep in the same room.

At best it might feel a little like a working holiday as all meals are provided. It would be nice to spend a week where we don’t have to worry about as many things for once.

    Anti-gratitude thread

How am I going to wake up at 6 on Tuesday if I’ve been waking up at 10 all week? 😬 I sleep around 12 or 1 and wake up at 10 but still feel like crap in the morning. first world problems, am I right?

Need to go for washing gloves. Picking up some other stuff too. Good I hate coming this late to Southland.

It’s so busy with parking full again. Argh 😠

Oh God my sympathies. Southland is a clusterfuck at the best of times, and triply so weekends.

Anti- gratitude - as I mentioned earlier, I smashed one of my favourite mugs when I missed the bedside table and it slipped on the edge and smashed on the wooden floor, largely because both cats had me pinned by sitting on my chest. Like Sammi is right now.

I often tell Tommy Cat that he’s very good at jumping, because everyone likes a bit of positive feedback. But tonight I’ve had to admit to him that both Simone Biles (and the other gymnasts) and the Equestrian horsies are probably better jumpers than him.

He might need to stick to the Olympic events of Napping and Being Fluffy.
