My WWII grandmother passed on her appreciation of corned beef sandwiches to me. Even though I’ve mostly stopped eating meat I still feel like reaching for it in Aldi. My other gran gave me a taste for Fray Bentos pies, which are their own culinary abomination.
I used to love corned beef when I could eat it but I tried the tinned one from Aldi many years back and it wasn’t very good. A lot of gloopiness and connective tissue, not very tasty, kind of reminded me of how dog food looks and smells.
I’d eat it if I was starving (and able to digest meat) but it fell a bit below even my low standards :(
I wouldn’t be above one of the Frays pies though, they just look like tinned pot pies
I used to eat mustard and mayo sandwiches when on struggle street.
I used to eat just mayo or mustard pickle on a slice of bread.
Or tomato sauce and spam sandwiches if you had spam. A cousin of the baloney/devon sandwich
