According to the text posted online Friday, the USPS is ready to implement the new restrictions on mail-in voting if the court injunctions are lifted.
“If the government obtains timely relief from the injunctions, implementation immediately thereafter will provide election officials as much time as possible before the next election to comply with the rule’s preparation standards for Federal Ballot Mail envelopes, and to prepare to submit data to the Federal Ballot Mail Portal (‘Portal’), before the mail-in and absentee ballots subject to this rule are mailed (which generally occurs in September or thereafter, as determined by state law),” the rule reads. “The Portal will become active (along with the verification process that relies on Portal data) at the time of the publication of the system of records (‘SOR’) governing the Portal.”
Nearly one in three Americans voted by mail in 2024, but Trump, who wants to restrict the number of voters by limiting ballots cast by mail, signed an executive order in March that prohibits the USPS from delivering ballots to any voters not on a federal list of citizens deemed eligible to vote in each state by the Department of Homeland Security.

When Trump is in office, the Postal Service dances to his tune, but when Biden was in office, it was IMPOSSIBLE for him to anything to stop the abuse.

Every time Biden tried there were dozens of judges all the way up to SCOTUS getting in the way, it’s a miracle he got anything done at all.

I said it about Biden, and I’ll say it about the next Dem Prez in 2028: the first thing they should do when they step off the podium after saying I do, is call for the arrests of the primary players, and their transport to Guantanamo Bay by the end of the day. They will be extensively interrogated, and we’ll find out about EVERYTHING. Then they will be incarcerated in Gitmo for the remainder of their lives, with no contact with each other, or anyone on the outside. There will be no news of them until the announcement of their deaths.
MAGA estates will be fully confiscated, and their corporations operated with revenues going to benefit the American people. Maga family members who didn’t end up in Gitmo better find a job.

If you can vote early please do so.
Don’t add to lines and delays at polling stations on election day.
Don’t trust your ballot will be postmarked properly if dropped off last day.
Also late returns and shifting results are used as “evidence” of voter fraud.
You warm fuzzy feeling going to the polling place on day of election be dammed, vote as early as possible. If you emotionally need to be at polling place on the day of the election, volunteer as a poll worker or watcher, give rides to polling place for those who need.
Vote as early as you can.
Some states (such as mine) don’t have early voting or vote by mail.
In that case, gotta you do what you can. Just hope this is not the last election we can actually vote in.
Yeah, these rules being put in place don’t have to be a barrier to anyone. Get your votes in, don’t wait.
And if you applied for mail in but are concerned that you didn’t get one or you didn’t mail it, check the provisional laws in your state to see what applies.
I get that same fuzzy feeling when I vote early at the library, as much as I would on election day. I am also the only voter in there, so no lines, no problems, mo anxiety.
I have no intention of trusting the mail, I’m going to deliver my ballot to the county clerk by hand. I recommend everyone else cut the mail out where they can.
Isn’t that the best? Choose vote by mail, get the ballot early. Do research and fill it out over weeks when you have time, and then just go to the polling place, skip the line, and hand it to them
Colorado has drop-off boxes, some of them are drive-through. Same as what you said, but you drop it off on a day that is convenient to you. You have a huge window of time to drop off your filled-out ballot.

A truly free country would do everything possible to make voting as easy as humanly possible. People going the other direction are not interested in freedom. Even though they talk about “freedom” all the time it’s the Southern version of “freedom”.

Ya I guess I understand part of your point, but I think medicine/life saving equipment/ emergency supplies are something id expect any country to send, but with civil responsibilities like collecting one vote I wouldn’t be surprised if any country in the subcontinent just says “too inconvenient/not worth the resources” that’s all

I love it because I have anxiety and having the time to myself to do it is essential because my mind blanks if I’m anxious, which I usually am around other people.
I just do an absentee ballot a week or two early. I don’t have to wait in a dumb line and it’s really easy to do at the courthouse.
Our county has drop boxes to skip the mail. Now that I think about it, the previous county I lived in had them too. Both are in California.
My county has the drop boxes as well, but my daughter is going to school out of state. It is a 6 hour drive one way for her to come home to vote. If it were not for mail in ballots she would not have been able to vote for the last 4 years.

To be clear, they published the rule to the federal register. If the I junctions are lifted, the rule will immediately go into effect. This has no immediate effect and hopefully never will.
If you live in Texas, you can vote early from October 19th to October 30th, 7 a.m. to 7pm. There is absolutely no reason you can’t find the 20 minutes it will take to vote sometime between 7am and 7pm from October 19th to October 30th. If you live in one of these counties, you can vote at any polling station in the county you reside in.

It’s the only way I’ve voted for years. It’s so nice to get my ballot and be able to take the time over a cup of coffee at home to research every candidate and proposition so that I’m making an informed decision.
The alternative is to give the ability to kneecap populated blue districts so that lines are 6+ hours long, dissuading people in those blue areas from voting. A real democracy requires voting to be easy, quick, and free, without prejudice. Voting by mail is the simplest and best solution for most people.
I’m not sure I’ve ever been nosey enough to ask other people how they vote, so you might be very surprised by how many people you know are voting by mail. Unless you’re in a state that makes it complicated for no reason, it just doesn’t make sense to waste so much time and energy on driving somewhere and standing in line and then feeling rushed in the booth or else risk a mistake that invalidates your ballot. Here in Virginia, I think it was just a one time application to receive my ballots by mail and I didn’t need to cite any reason to qualify for it. It’s just an objectively better process. You should look into how to do it in your state and try it for yourself. And if it’s not easily available, you should be asking yourself why anybody would want to make it harder to participate in their democratic process. Forcing it to be an in person only option restricts it to people with enough time and money to be able to get to their polling place and spend significant time on what for others is likely a work/school day. It’s targeted voter suppression.
It’s simple for me voting in person. But half the things I vote for I have no idea. So doing research while voting is a good idea.
Wut? When I registered to vote in California, they told me to check the box to vote by mail.
Why wouldn’t you want the time to get the ballot early, do your research over weeks or months to slowly fill it out, and then send it out in your PJs?

Yup. Colorado here. I don’t know why anyone would bother to vote in-person, on the day of the election unless they had highly unusual circumstances.
I typically drop my filled-out ballot going through one of the drive-through locations on my way to/from work.

Honestly, I don’t trust it. I know my ballot is in the box when I put it in there.
Have lived in WA state. It’s super nice and convenient. They send a pamphlet with all the candidates names and BLUFs a few weeks ahead of time, and then a ballot shows up in my mailbox. I do more research on the candidates, fill it out and either drop it off at one of the many drop boxes around town, or put it back in the mail. Honestly it keeps me more involved in local elections, because I can’t really say I’d be remembering/prioritizing going to vote in person for the local races not in main election season.
California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, and Washington (both the state of and DC) have all-by-mail voting. I imagine some of the particulars vary slightly, but in general you get a ballot a few weeks prior along with some associated info, and then either mail it back and/or drop it off somewhere. Presumably there are in-person locations available for edge cases, but the overwhelming majority of voters in those areas do so by mail.
Washington State only has vote by mail.
I don’t know anybody that doesn’t vote by mail.
I do, seeing as I live on the other side of the world.
Oregon votes only by mail, I think maybe Washington too, that probably skews the numbers
