Was sitting there gearing up (or down) to jump in. Had a really friendly dog (labradoodle) rock up, sit on me (after it’d already jumped in itself) and shake itself down.

What I’ve noticed down here over the years catching the bus from / to g-town is all the gen z say thanks to the driver. Very few have their phones playing music, and very quietly spoken. None of them touch on though 🙃 and the driver doesn’t give two shits. It’s basically a no questions asked free bus service (Mcharrys), which is how it should be.
Night and day compared to melbs PT. Same could be said for vline. Conductor hardly checks, and if you don’t have a valid ticket they don’t give two shits either. Never seen anyone booted off it’s just the vulture inspectors on trams really.
I’ve noticed a lot of young gen z aren’t tapping on since it became free for teens to use PT. They’re probably like, why, it’s not like it’s deducting anything.
I think PT should cost much less. Still need some user contribution but it should be cheaper than driving. We want to encourage PT use. I dont care if people dont pay, but I wonder if people not touching on means they don’t get counted, and the patronage on the route looks artificially low. Leading to lower frequencies and less route expansions.
PTV bus drivers don’t give a shit either lol, I think I remember some years back they got shitty that they were expected to check tickets and boot people off, so they’re not required to do that anymore. Those power hungry officers sometimes check though, especially on school days/peak times.
Trams depends on the day and school terms. When school terms are on, generally you see the failed pigs try to catch students at peak times. But taking the tram away from a school/uni, you see way less, if none.
Trains are a bit harder to fare evade as some stations have those gates and officers, but some don’t, so if you know the stations you can get off a stop or two early at a station with no gates, and either walk or catch a tram/bus.
