Some slash fics are still epic stories in their own right! Good luck finding a good one that gets finished, though.
I had never heard of slash until I ran across mentions of it in USENET back in the day. Not my thing, but it certainly tells you how deeply committed the Star Trek fanbase can be.
I appreciate that dad knew what was up. It was older code, but slash is eternal.
Wanna bet both OOP and her sister are prolific Sherlock slash writers?

Reminds me of The Last Jedi.
My God, this almost feels cathartic when someone expresses your feels so perfectly. I genuinely thought I was mad because everyone around me thought Sherlock was the peak avatar of that franchise. I thought it was cringe and was rank with #iamverysmart vibes throughout the show.
I thought they were talking about Elementary at first, and wasn’t understanding where the gay fanfic fit in.
Oh please, Elementary Holmes is queer coded af
But who’d be Spock to his Kirk? His brother?
Um… what?
They’re talking about fanfiction, which in most fandoms predominantly include gay shipping
To be fair, fanfic doesn’t have to be about alternate relationships. It can be just fixing the studio/corporate butchering of a working lore, or going in directions that are legit but aren’t interesting enough for movie/TV writers. And some of the fanfic crowds are VERY particular about consistency.
Fanfic for Star Wars prequels is pretty incredible. What could have been. And sure, that includes relationships.
I’ll be honest, i got issues with that world “alternate” there.
Why not just say same sex
Because some of the relationships changed around or created are between two different sexes? Sure, a lot of it is gay, but some can be a different girl that the main guy isn’t with. I was trying to be all inclusive.
Can’t fix ‘Sherlock’, though.

Star Wars extended universe before the disney retcon is awesome. I actually found a book being discarded by the local library that’s about how Leia got the plans and I haven’t read it yet but I think she is pretty badass in it.
When I saw Star Wars for the first time, in the theater in 1977, it occurred to me that the adventure of stealing the Deathstar plans must have been pretty spectacular, but then I realized that probably everybody died getting them, and they’ll never make that movie, where the heroes die in the end.
Decades later, Rogue One came out, and told the story I wanted to see, and yeah, pretty much everyone dies in the end.
What’s the name of the book?
It doesn’t have to be. It never isnt.
My fanfic ain’t about none o’ dat. Or at least once I wrote it, it won’t be. Not dat it is now, either.
It’s about dis git wot wants ta get really smart and he comes up with dis proppa klever plan ta get smart. But den, if he’s dat klever ta begin with, does he really need to get smart?
It’s called Grot and Supergrot. I’ll write it one day. Den yoo’ll see!
Not to be confused with Slasher film.
hahahaha
And some of those stories have some pretty challenging ideas involving Greek letters that I’m not sure dad is equipped to handle
[not really off topic, but kinda]
“The 7% Solution” by Nicholas Meyer [who also directed the movie]
Fantastic story. Holmes’ cocaine habit has become a full on addiction. It’s up to Drs. Watson and Freud to cure him.
