The older I get and the more I understand that boomers had literally it the easiest out of any one in history the more salty I get over them calling millennials & gen Z lazy all those years.

All you stupid oldies had to do was put like 2% of your paycheck into any index over your career and you would be rich AF right now. Which, is exactly why so many boomers are fucking loaded right now and old a historically disproportionate amount of wealth for the generation.

        any one in history

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this and I think it’s accurate. No doubt they worked, but they live in the modern age with modern luxuries and probably the best large scale economic climate ever for a single generation. So many boomers are so financially sound it’s almost comical. RV’s fucking everywhere. 2nd homes. It’s like a slap in our faces.

I’m speaking about American boomers specifically. Especially since they seem so deadset on pulling the ladder up behind them.

Exactly. The standard QoL between 1800, 1900, and 2000 is immense. But between 1970/80/90/00/10/20 - it all feels extremely similar or even a bit worse. Cars vs Horse was a big change to out QoL, Landline vs iPhone is arguably lateral or only slightly up. And I feel the same can be said for the majority of innovations over the last 30 years… Like they’re nice sure, but they didn’t really revolutionize our QoL like the generation prior to the boomers experienced.

Bomers got it “as good as it got” up to now, but weer able to enjoy the average bull run of the last 50 years. Meanwhile younger generations are entering right as it started to taper off.

Paying taxes that fund public education despite not having kids? Supporting politicians who want to make our public education system more robust and performant? Supporting politicians and policies to attempt to combat climate change? Giving money to causes related to the above even though I don’t (and will never) have kids?

It doesn’t sound like you’re getting it so I’ll spell it out. If you’re not actively thinking about or doing something for the next generation, why would you expect a boomer to have done so?

Who the hell are you to judge what they can or should be doing? They might not have the means, time, or health to do more. Get out of here with that high horse.

My bad for believing that you should pay forward what society has already done for you. I don’t care that you didn’t intend on having children. People have given far more that you benefited from as a child and the bare minimum is that you do the same.

No matter what you believe, you have benefited from policy and programs funded by taxpayers who may or may not have had any intention of benefiting you specifically.

And they just gave you ways they have given back. Get off your high horse and maybe you would see that. You don’t know that person’s spot in life. They might be doing the best they can. You’re speaking from a point of privilege to demand more.

The ways they give back are all standard expected behavior in a functioning society. Pay your taxes and vote.

Not having kids, my bloodline ideally ends with me. At my age my mother already had me and was pregnant with a second child she couldn’t care for, I’m 26 and soon to be 27. I’m hoping I die an irrelevant, ignoble, and funny death.

Sure. There are always lots of great politicians to vote for. I can’t believe those boomers didn’t think of that.

I’m just making my way through the universe, like everyone else, including boomers. My point was that people seem to think that boomers, or any generation for that matter, have a big meeting and decide to fuck up the following generations en masse. I think oligarchs are causing the problems, not 70 year olds, who had the nerve to buy a house because they could. If you were a boomer I bet you wouldn’t have done anything different, because you would not have seen the harm in it. As always the harm comes from the top, not a whole generation.
