I hadn’t heard anything about this, but it sounds pretty interesting. The Guardian’s description makes it sound a little like 'F for Fake," which is pretty great.
Holy fuck I am tired of seeing this bitch’s face all over the internet
Absolute madness. I am huge Nathan fan and I was setting my expectations low due to all the hype. It certainly lived up and left my jaw on the floor by the end. Holy hell there’s so many layers to this movie… I’m also glad I watched it in theater. It had been a few years since I’ve been to the movies and this one was def an experience.
Bruh, I can’t even remember for sure the last time I went to the actual movies. Like a movie theater.
It was definitely pre-covid and I think it may have been to see Jordan Peele’s US
Anyway, I went to see this last night and holy shit I think this might be the best movie I’ve ever seen. And I’m so glad I saw it in a movie theater on opening night.
This movie is An Experience.
It started out kinda slow and within the first 20 mins or so I was worried I might end up regretting choosing to spend 3 hours watching a movie about Elizabeth Holmes.
In hindsight, I wonder if that was a trick/illusion of the magician himself, intentionally trying to play with the audience’s mind. Bc almost right after I had that thought I was 100% locked in for the remainder of the movie.
I can’t remember ever sitting through a movie in a theater before where at various points throughout a single movie, my fellow audience members had such a range of shared reactions: laughter, shocked audible gasps, angry wtfs, disgust, empathy. Then when it was all over, (and I mean this in the least sacrilegious way possible) the audience all got up and left in a dazed and heavy silence that I seriously can only compare to my memory of seeing Passion of the Christ.
Anyway, go see this movie.
Nathan Fielder does what he does best, but also gives shades of Alfred Hitchcock. I know that doesn’t sound like a real description, but it is.
Bruh, movies have been getting by just fine without you… no one cares but damn it’s been a while bruh! Maybe next time she’ll tell the truth and we can all act similarly mesmerized.
But bruh WOW. Didn’t you see how stuff is before you did??? Bruh… I wonder what Holmes could do bruh she speaks so much bruh… we should all totally watch stuff bruh. You don’t know.
Go to bed
D-d-d-douchebag!
I guess your parents failed to tell you… but… you have the option not to be an asshole.
Oh wow so you’re just a dick huh?
glue sniffing is a helluva drug bruh
Sorry I enjoyed the movie bruh 🍿
…Also, I have to ask. Are you Billy Evans?
???
You should check the batteries in your carbon monoxide detector. Bruh
Or just don’t. Either is fine.
Thanks for making it so apparent why I should block you
Are you ok?
Great job focusing on making fun of how that person writes!
Bruh, bruh, bruh!
What are you 13?
I assume everyone in the internet is around 12 these days
Crazy amount of paid hype in here. WTF‽
I saw it today and it was great. I really appreciate a movie that actually leaves room for interpretation. Every 30 minutes or so it felt like the narrative was being turned on its head and it kept me at the edge of my seat like few movies of this length have. Definitely a movie I’ll be thinking about for a while.
Why is this movie not planned for release in India.
Kinda a big English speaking market to skip out on.
Because they want you to pirate it
Because an Indian distributor hasn’t purchased it.
The breathless hype this movie is receiving is making me angry, and I’m not entirely certain why.
The breathless hype this movie is receiving is making me angry, and I’m not entirely certain why.
Possibly because on a superficial level it comes off as another celebration of an evil doer who actively did truly shitty things, and we’re all bone fucking tired of that.
I only say that because for myself I’ve been skipping the above Guardian article for several days based on the subject alone, and that is my own reason why. Good to hear there’s more to the movie than that. I like a good documentary, maybe this will be worth watching when it gets to streaming.
I can almost guarantee that the movie does not portray Holmes positively.
Lance Oppenheim documentaries are usually very well received, and this one is co-directed and hosted by a very popular celebrity comedian following a famously crazy person. It’s kind of the perfect recipe to make a very popular and well liked documentary.
What exactly made Holmes crazy? All the billionaires are like her, her mistake was getting caught scamming the billionaire class.
The way she behaved in interviews mostly. This movie makes it even more clear that she is a very unusual person.
Calling Nathan Fielder simply a “popular celebrity comedian” really undersells him. He’s a fucking genius.
This will probably piss you off more, but it’s one of those things where it’s kind of impossible to predict what your expectations should be going in and that’s a big part of why it’s enjoyable.
Don’t want to spoil it for you but you should leave the movie with broad questions about truth, human nature, memory, and bias/perception in general moreso than gaining definitive answers about the subject of the documentary.
Will you be able to go about life just fine if you don’t see it or wait until it’s streaming? Yes.
Is it a surprisingly good movie that’s worth the cost of a ticket and 3 hours of attention? Yes.
Honestly would like to know if you do end up seeing it and manage to still hold on to that singular feeling of anger while sitting through this movie.
