I see two consenting adults, hurting no one and none of my fuckin’ business.
Who is this? Sorry all white people look the same to me
he’s the lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins. Soundtrack to all those edgy 90’s teenagers who dreamed of being on MTV’s the Real World and had a dalliance with bisexuality before taking a welding course in community college and marrying a basic bitch/brad, then living in a tan bungalow with a pitbull and a labradoodle.
It’s Bill Burr
Billy Corgan the lead singer from Smashing Pumpkins
The referenced lyrics in the title are “Despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage” from the song Bullet With Butterfly Wings.
The supposed scandal is that he’s dating a 33yo.
The scandal is that he said he dates younger because he finds women in his age range to be broken and undatable, not because he’s dating a 33 year old. He’s also a known asshole and has had that reputation for years.
Oh I hate the Smashing Pumpkins that is why I didn’t recognize him
He’s also involved in wrestling somehow. Weird dude.
People hating on him for this now for some reason when they should have just been hating him the whole time because he sucks.
Who is that conservative republican gentleman?
Billy Cockroach.
But, that’s just what I call all conservative traitors.
its win/win. when he dies she gets his money.
His multiple appearances on Info Wars were enough to get me to forget him forever.
Damn… how did I miss that?
The guy from Staind is also a piece of shit
Whole bunch of old dudes on Lemmy who feel very strongly that they shouldn’t be criticized in this situation for some reason.
Adults are adults. There are better reasons to hate him.
Yeah. humans are weird. and dumb.
How do you feel about older women dating younger men?
Gross for the same reason.
So Patrick Stewart was gross, just as Cher is gross? Or is it that age-difference only means anything when protecting presumed innocence? As such, should we make the new age of adulthood/age of consent 30, just to be sure people are mature before they engage in the world?
Yes, and so are you.
tHis MeAnS wE nEEd to ChAnG E tHE aGE oF cOnSenT
LMAO, cringelords only have one thing on their mind at all times, huh?
What else is the point of posts like this? If we can simply make grand generalizations about what is/is not ok in a relationship, why should anyone feel ashamed for saying that “queerness is gross”, or any other value claim about relationships? It’s fine if you don’t have the wherewithal to actually discuss implications of your value judgements, but don’t expect law makers to consider you if the most reasoned response you can have is “fuCkiNG cRiNGelOrDS!”. With that level of maturity, I certainly hope you’re not dating anyone!
Who fucking cares? She wasn’t a “child” when they met, and they’re been together over 15 years now, and have kids. This isn’t like Leonardo DiCaprio, cycling through partners because they aged out at 24…and it sure a shit isn’t like some gross, middle-aged pedophile, grooming some naive 12 year old to be his child bride.
He was 44 and she was 19 when they met
Imagine your daughter comes home from high-school one day and introduces you to her new boyfriend and he’s not from HER school, he’s from YOUR school. He was comfortably her dad’s age.
Is your premise that 19 year old are not adults? Or that there ought to be caps on age differences written into law? Or that women should be infantilized until they lose any notion of being “young”? I find it incredibly weird how much effort and criticism is placed on individual relationships based on age-difference alone. It screams Puritan ideals of feminine innocence and the evils of sex. If there is evidence of coersion or grooming, let’s hear it. Otherwise all I see are efforts to undermine the notion that a woman (especially a young woman) is capable of making “good” romantic decisions.
Do you understand that something doesn’t have to be illegal to be gross?
At a societal level, no, I don’t understand that. At least not in the context of broad criticisms and sweeping generalizations about people. I see little difference in saying that “age-gaps are gross” and say that “queerness is gross” when talking about social norms and customs. Both are value statements about how a person should be. I reject the foundations of that sentiment as being anti-feminist and forcing conformity based on personal values of how a person should be allowed to exist. Where laws come into play, they ought to be specifically focused on minimizing harm and prioritizing wellness. We set laws around social norms towards considerations of how we can regulate a complex world in an efficient manner. Yes, that means drawing arbitrary lines in the sand around things like age of consent, which is a short hand for age of generally accepted maturity. If we want to decide that people aren’t actually mature enough to engage in consent until 25, 30, or 50, we can collectively decide to enshrine that in law. That doesn’t mean the issues suddenly vanish, and it will likely cause all manner of unintended consequences (should someone who isn’t deemed mature enough to be in a relationship be allowed into the workforce, or to vote?).
Is that what you’ll tell your young girlfriend’s dad when he’s about to punch your eye?
Is parental violence a good measure of what ought to be OK in society? Should a parent who assaults their child for being gay be used as a measure to tell if being gay is ok or not? Should a 19 year old boyfriend’s dad be vindicated in assaulting their 50 year old girlfriend? What about if it’s a 19 and 50 year old gay couple?
If age-gaps alone are reasonable grounds for violence, they are reasonable grounds for laws. Under the eyes of the law in every western nation, a man assaulting another man for pursuing a relationship with their 19 year old daughter would be considered a felony assault, and in no way aggravated (at least not in and of itself). If a 25 year old man is dating a 75 year old woman, is the direction of abuse and power dynamics static (i.e. should we presume that the 25 year old man is being groomed/abused)?
It never ceases to astound me how readily people are to assume 19 year old women are incapable of holding power/emotional maturity.
I’ll bet you’re the type who celebrates caricature of dads striking the fear of god into the hearts of anyone who would attempt to undermine the innocence of their daughters. I’ll bet you laugh your ass off at movie scenes where 16 year old boys have guns pulled on them as a “dad greeting the boyfriend “joke””. Yeah, real healthy society promotion going on in your head…
I’m not reading this bullshit
Go tell all this shit to real people face to face and see their reactions. Deranged lunatic
Troll for sure
Coming from someone who espouses violence as a solution, yeah, you can fuck right off. I don’t think you actually have the mental capacity to read those many words, much less hold actual relationships in the world. When all you have is insults and you’re calling other people “troll” 😂
Yes, it’s a solution when dealing with perverts like you. I commend that father for doing the right thing by beating you up to keep you away from his daughter. Because sickos like you don’t back down. You’ve intellectualized your mental illness.
I have no doubt I’m speaking to someone who will see the inside of a prison cell. Quite fascinating, actually. Like visiting a zoo.
Is your premise that 19 year old are not adults? Or that there ought to be caps on age differences written into law? Or that women should be infantilized until they lose any notion of being “young”?
Are these all strawman arguments? Are they made to hide your lust beneath a thin veil of feminism? Does your faux feminist view actually help protect women, or does it help protect the men who prey upon them? Does your analysis account for material and social power dynamics?
find it incredibly weird how much effort and criticism is placed on individual relationships based on age-difference alone. It screams Puritan ideals of feminine innocence and the evils of sex.
I find it incredibly weird that anyone is immature enough to date someone half their age. As someone quickly approaching their 40s, I have nothing in common with someone in their late 20s, let alone someone who’s 19.
If there is evidence of coersion or grooming, let’s hear it. Otherwise all I see are efforts to undermine the notion that a woman (especially a young woman) is capable of making “good” romantic decisions.
Do you think evidence of grooming or coercion is often exposed before the damage is done?
It’s hilarious that you are trying to act like you are defending the woman in the relationship, while simultaneously assuming that anyone is criticizing the woman and not the 50 year old millionaire…
Are these all strawman arguments? Are they made to hide your lust beneath a thin veil of feminism?
You hit the nail on the head here. Well said.
Are these all strawman arguments? Are they made to hide your lust beneath a thin veil of feminism? Does your faux feminist view actually help protect women, or does it help protect the men who prey upon them?>
So I’m your worldview women are inherently in need of protection from men, who are inherently predators? Yeah, maybe go read some feminist texts before making broad generalizations like that…
Does your analysis account for material and social power dynamics?>
Yes, I would apply considerations of wealth imbalance far before applying considerations of gender imbalances, as wealth imbalances tend to create much more oppressive conditions.
I find it incredibly weird that anyone is immature enough to date someone half their age. As someone quickly approaching their 40s, I have nothing in common with someone in their late 20s, let alone someone who’s 19.>
Now whose strawmanning? Should every relationship need to conform to your notions of “normal”? Why couldn’t anyone use that same rationale to broadly criticize mixed culture relationships, queer relationships, or any other form of relationship? You can literally replace what folllows “I find it weird” with any descriptor - it’s not a reasoned position, it’s a felt one.
Do you think evidence of grooming or coercion is often exposed before the damage is done? It’s hilarious that you are trying to act like you are defending the woman in the relationship, while simultaneously assuming that anyone is criticizing the woman and not the 50 year old millionaire…>
The fixation on the 50 year old millionaire and not the specifics of their relationship erases the woman. What’s the millionaire’s partner’s name? Who is she as a person? Has she spoke about abuse, coersion, or grooming? Do old men always groom young women? Are young men impervious to grooming, coersion, and abuse from old women?
Do you think that narratives that place women as innocents who need to be protected are useful in pushing forward feminist golas of sex/gender equality? How? I think that empowering women to understand they are individuals who can make choices for themselves and who can hold otherwise in positions of power to account is a much better approach.
So I’m your worldview women are inherently in need of protection from men, who are inherently predators? Yeah, maybe go read some feminist texts before making broad generalizations like that…
Another strawman… Are we talking about all men? When did I say all men were predators ? We are talking about a 50 year old man who’s been married several times and has defended the abuse allegations of his good friend Marilyn Manson?
Yes, I would apply considerations of wealth imbalance far before applying considerations of gender imbalances, as wealth imbalances tend to create much more oppressive conditions.
And you aren’t doing it in this case because…? Also, how often do you see a relationship between an old man and a teenager where there wasn’t a wealth imbalance…it’s almost like that’s inherent to the problem.
Now whose strawmanning? Should every relationship need to conform to your notions of “normal”?
Still you. How is being able to relate to someone not topical to relationships?
Why couldn’t anyone use that same rationale to broadly criticize mixed culture relationships, queer relationships, or any other form of relationship?
Lol, it’s telling that you are equating all of these to a 50 year old millionaire marrying a 19 year old. True ally.
What exactly is the through line between mixed culture, queer relationships, and “any form of relationship”? And what prevents them from relating to each other? Oh, I’m queer and so is my partner…we obviously don’t have anything to talk about. What are you talking about?
The dude is from an entirely different generation.
The fixation on the 50 year old millionaire and not the specifics of their relationship erases the woman.
That’s not a specific of the relationship?
What’s the millionaire’s partner’s name? Who is she as a person? Has she spoke about abuse, coersion, or grooming?
The whole point is that the power dynamic is obvious and can be abused to control the relationship. Including talking to people about the relationship.
Do old men always groom young women? Are young men impervious to grooming, coersion, and abuse from old women?
Is there not an established enough history of that happening coming from rich, powerful, and famous men?
Did I say anything about rich powerful and famous women not being able to do the same?
Do you think that narratives that place women as innocents who need to be protected are useful in pushing forward feminist golas of sex/gender equality? How?
That is the narrative you are attempting to represent this as. Women are systemically disadvanged on both a legal and economic scale that makes it easier for wealthy and powerful men to treat them as sexual objects. Attempting to ignore the systemic history of misogyny and then declare that if you don’t think women are capable of being invulnerable to these forces is misogynistic. Feminism not just about equality, it’s about equity and recognition that the patriarchy is maintained to isolate women from the equity that would free them of another avenue of control.
think that empowering women to understand they are individuals who can make choices for themselves and who can hold otherwise in positions of power to account is a much better approach.
How exactly is the 19 year going to hold their powerful partner to account if they are abused? Choosing to be controlled by a much more powerful man is your version of feminism?
Does your faux feminist view actually help protect women, or does it help protect the men who prey upon them?>
That’s where you said that women need protection from “men who prey upon them”. Every statement you make suggests that women need protection from power imbalances and that society needs to focus its efforts on protecting them in their innocence.
Chloe Mendel is an NYC fashion industry heris. She was established as a corporate executive by the time she was 30 and has otherwise enjoyed a life guided by wealth and nepotism. In contrast, Billy Corgan was raised in a lower middle-class household in the Chicago suburbs, with his youth marked by an abusive father. Corgan is a notable piece of shit, but this was long known prior to the start of his and Mendel’s relationship.
Your fluctuating in and out of calling old white men evil and young women innocent and incapable of power seems directed at creating a worldview that erases women’s history and identity while elevating the power of old white men. If you actually cared about power balance within a relationships, I would have hoped you could provide a single piece of data on why Mendel was deprived of power, beyond “she’s too young!”. A woman who holds that much wealth and family power at a young age doesn’t exactly scream “incapable innocent”, though, does it? I see no reason to believe that there is anything nefarious to this relationship, or that Mendel was powerless from its outset. Sure, Corgan sucks as a human, but I see no evidence of his relationship to Mendel as being “wrong”.
I don’t disagree that women are systematically disadvantaged, but placing that disadvantage on age only obfuscates how women are disadvantaged in favour of a narrative that women’s choices are not valid in the face of the broader context of being disadvantage. All this framing does is further solidify the societal notions that women are enfeeble and in need of protection as they are otherwise incapable of defending themselves. It operates on a level that places women’s autonomy as a lower priority than discrediting old white men.
Puritan ideals of feminine innocence
I don’t think most people here focus on the gender, it might be you who is doing it either for winning an argument by agitation or it reflects your internal state of reference on the topic. This is not related to gender at all in my perspective.
The main argument is difference in mental maturity and compatibility. Younger people, having less experience in life generally will have poorer decision making skills in this regard and are also more easily manipulated by more experienced people. You may oppose such a relation for the same reason you may oppose two people of the same age making kids at the age of 18. Ofcourse if you are their guardian, next natural step is to probe how well they defend their decision and how well informed they are in the potential gains vs losses. Not to reject it out right. Everyone has the right to do whatever the fuck they want after whatever the legal limit is in their country. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t discuss downsides of any decision made after 18.
I presume you would be less ok with this if it was 40 vs 16. But any age limit you put between 16 to 19 will be a blanket limit considering the worst possible cases in terms of mental maturity. So being ok for 19 and not for 16 is kind of arbitrary. The only tangible fact here is that 19 is just about the age where your life view really starts to mature where as someone at the age of 40 has had like 20x more life experience in their mature years compared to you. It creates the same kind of power imbalance that a teacher student has. This is also not the same as 30 vs 50. Here the difference in mature life experience reduces to about 3x almost an order of magnitude less imbalanced.
If years spent as a mature person is a decider of relationship imbalance, should a 60 year old be allowed to be in a management position where 19 year olds are employed? We can play the arbitrary game of “when it’s someone adult enough to not be manipulated”, but to your point, it’s arbitrary. If age is indicative of power, is it the power differential we are actually concerned with? If a white man holds more power in the world by virtue of the world being a racist and sexist place, is it immoral for a white man to date a black woman due to that imbalance of power? What about wealth differentials? Should a millionaire be allowed to date someone without wealth? Should a 19 year old be allowed to take financial advice from someone twice their age? How can we be sure they aren’t being manipulated in their naivety? We have laws that guard against manipulation, exploration, conversion, and fraud. Do you think that age is the best metric for judgement in these types of issues? Should people be vetted for mental capability to engage in any number of acts, rather than using the standard of 18 being adulthood? Is presumed completion of highschool at 18 a reasonable enough metric to establish “educated” or mature, and if not, should we raise the age for involvement in everything from relationships to work, out or even voting to be more directly tested metrics, or older, to say 25, or 30?
If your daughter meets someone who makes her happy, shouldn’t you just be happy for her? You sound exactly like a conservative saying “Imagine if your daughter came home with a woman!” Maybe it’s not about you.
This account is 15 days old
I think I’ve just figured out why all these gross comments are getting upvoted so hard ?
Is anyone else concerned someone is posting these posts and commenting these comments and upvoting said comments to give the appearance that Lemmy or this instance alone is dominated by perverts to then start spreading that lie all over the internet or… am I being paranoid?
Cause I mean… seriously. It’s like Andrew Tate HQ in this comments section. And the arguments are so weak that I don’t even feel vaguely enraged by them. It’s like they’re… not even real people. Like… I’ve never met anyone like this IRL.
Is there somekinda minor drama going on between instances? Is someone doing this in a coordinated way? Cause all the comments are also very similar to each other.
Oh, well… anyway… 🤨
I guess if you do not have the ability to recognize that people can use experience and material resources to manipulate…
You sound exactly like a conservative saying “Imagine if your daughter came home with a woman!”
Ahh yes, homosexual relationships are exactly like a 50 year old millionaire dating a 19 year old. It’s so obvious!
Damn, poor Billy aged 6 years just so you could double-down on your ridiculous point.
But why stop at romantic relationships? Every relationship has the potential for manipulation. It’s only fair that 19-year olds only interact with other 19-year olds with similar socioeconomic backgrounds. Otherwise, they could be manipulated to do all manner of things!
Yeah they should have a word for this. Borderline pedophile maybe? I mean I see 19 year olds from time time and get exposed to their life view/style. For a 44 year old to date an average 19 year old, that person really needs to have some “issues”. Ofcourse there is still the chance that she was like a decade ahead of her peers in terms of mental maturity and what not which maybe makes it slightly more ok but not by a large margin. That he didn’t dump her after she got older also makes it better, but still…
…and it sure a shit isn’t like some gross, middle-aged pedophile, grooming some naive 12 year old to be his child bride.
You have been banned from c/Conservative.
That community doesn’t actually have conservatives in it, it makes fun of them. Lemmy doesn’t have enough of those
The reddit one would ban you in a microsecond though
is that John Malkovitch?
That’s offensive to John Malkovitch
This age policing shit is out of control.
It’s hard enough to find someone you’re willing to share a bathroom with, limiting it to someone born within eleven months of you is a little excessive.
I say this as someone who experienced clerical sa at a very young age, I know all too well what being taken advantage of by a much older predator feels like.
Not every relationship with an age gap is coercive or abusive. Many are transactional, but that’s an entirely different question.
He was 44 and she was 19 when they met
I think for a long term committed relationship, if one person is decades older than the other, the older one must not care much about the quality of life of the younger.
Might be all fun and games in the moment, but you are on a trajectory to probably inflict elder care on that partner down the road. Being tied down to a tired old person instead of someone that can keep up with them.
Maybe if the older person is rich enough to ensure others provide the care and the relationship is open, or if the relationship is mutually agreed to be a short term one before the age related deterioration is likely to really set in. But generally I don’t think this is the case.
The elder care aspect doesn’t get mentioned enough
There’s a huge difference between more than eleven months and 25 years. She was 19 and he was 44 when they met.
Why does this matter?
i just see this as people not liking that women have a choice of dating someone older than them
I agree, it’s gotten annoying. I dated someone who was 19/20?(I don’t remember her age then) when I was 26. My ex before was two weeks younger than me. One person had their shit together and the other sat on my shoulders. So maturity levels vary. One I got promoted to a supervisor and the other couldn’t even pass the stupid mmpi test so we could work together.
It’s not the same as actors and billionaires taking people as young as possible to own them
You’re not wrong. Although in a way a lot of actors break and are stuck at a certain age. Look at Britney Spears.
She was ruined and none of that is similar to adult male actors indulging in young girls because they like to own their so
While I agree it’s creepy if you specifically only go after women who are way younger, I feel the way this kind of discourse talks about these types of relationships essentially says “Women have no agency and no power to resist being with a man twice their age”.
It feels like a lot of attacks on weird men’s behaviour are actually just misogynistic underneath, in a “it’s the duty of the man to do everything right because women are just dumb children incapable of taking decisions” kind of way.
USUALLY the same thing happens when women date much younger men.
It’s about power, not about gender. People with a lot of experience and resources prey on people who have very little.
If someone is 60 and dating someone who is 30, that’s usually ok (a little weird in my opinion tho) cause someone who is 30 is fairly mature and can understand what’s going on, and usually has friends, a career, and a lot of stability in their lives.
If someone is 40 and dating someone that’s 20… it doesn’t matter what the gender mix is… the 20 year old is going to have a lot of trouble pushing back when things are wrong. The 20 year old isn’t emotionally, or FINANCIALLY able to break away as easily. It’s not misogynistic to say that a very young person (female or male) might end up in a situation they feel like they can’t leave.
I don’t agree that the younger have zero agency. Their youth is worth quite a bit. They can leave, find somone else, start over. Youth targets age almost as much as age targets youth. One side usually has more wealth, social standing and the other has more vitality. Both parties often find it is to their own personal benefit. To get rid of all the power imbalances that could happen in relationships, we’d have to have everyone date their equal in intelligence, wealth, social standing, occupation, looks or someone would always have the possibility to have the upper hand. Maybe what’s needed is giving children (under 18s) the knowledge to be able to push back against wrong situations. I used to feel it was age that was the predator but I know quite a few people in recent years, male and female, who have been targeted for relationships with younger people simply because they are perceived to have more financial means.
I have barely saw that happening when the situation is older women with younger men, actually the men gets attacked in that situation too, and the women, infantilized in consequence.
Patrick Stewart’s wife was less than half his age and I didn’t hear many people who had a problem with that. I think it has to do with how people view the character of the man in the relationship, as you said if it’s a pattern or in Billy’s case people just don’t like him.
Patrick’s wife was 34 when they met. That’s why people weren’t bothered. Corgan’s partner was 19 and he was 44 when they met
I just feel that her is trying to take advantage of him and his wealth, anyways, so if I had a problem with this, it would be that. But I can’t, of course, prove anything, I just feel that it’s like that because it’s what I’ve seen the most.
It feels like a lot of attacks on weird men’s behaviour are actually just misogynistic underneath
that’s actually a pretty fair point. Society tends to think of women as having less agency than men; that they’re delicate flowers, or country bumpkins getting the wool pulled over their eyes by men.
No.
A lot of them enter these situations with their eyes wide open, and its our collective small minds that can’t handle that truth, so we reinvent a different narrative.
Good catch, honestly.
Also, that I don’t see the same happening when it’s the reverse situation. Even then, they’ll attack the man because “oh no, he just wants to take advantage of that poor granny”, thus infantilizing again the women.
If we’re going to attack, we have not to do it based in the gender, but in the actual power balance, and act consistently across genres, because sometimes the women can have power over the men, even though it’s more common the other way.
Plus, gender and age-gaps are only a small fraction of the differences through which power imbalances can exist. Something as simple as a difference of confidence, or as incredibly impactful as wealth difference can easily be a larger determining factor of control within a relationship. The hyper focus on young women’s lack of agency feels more Puritan than anything.
Yeah. I’d even argue that younger people has in general clear advantages, such as more vitality, more energy, better health, a more flexible mind, etc., that can play in favor of them in terms of power.
Hell, what I’d think if I saw one younger person with an older one is that the younger one is only interested in their wealth and/or in their status and/or in their influence and/or in their reputation.
That’s not always the case of course and there are actual healthy relationships between people with such an age gap, and tbh I know the other way is not uncommon at all, but with all these things such as sugar daddies/mommies and sugar babies, I’d think is not as common as the younger one being the one manipulating the relationship to their own benefit.
I think the older ones are in disadvantage most of the times because they’re more prone to lack of confidence, generally less attractives, and what’s worse, they’re more sensitive/vulnerable to loneliness, so they’re almost do anything their younger partner tells them to do in order to feel that they have a chance of not being abandoned.
But still, these relationships are between people that have both the right and the capability to consent, so it’s basically nothing of my business even if I dislike it for the reasons exposed before.
Wealth is absolutely more advantageous than youth. Even in scenarios where an older person is buying the time and attention from a youthful person, the withholding of wealth can mean poverty and all the suffering that comes with that. The withholding of youth only incurs (at worst) suffering of loneliness, which is objectively less detrimental than poverty. In the instance of the Corgans, she was a wealthy heir to a fashion empire, meaning any imbalance of power was minimized from the outset of their relationship. As much as there are notions of who benefits more from a relationship, that is seperate from notions of power within a relationship. I don’t tend to care much about power imbalances among the wealthy, as the objective suffering is negligible in most instances. Conversely, power imbalances within relationships where one is wealthy and the other comes from poverty should be heavily scrutinized. Situations where a partner’s basic financial wellbeing are predicated on that relationship can lead to situations where the disadvantaged partner can be abused in brutal ways. The fear of loosing your home and ability to feed yourself will always be vector of gross power that individuals can yield towards awful ends. The reality is that wealth inequality in relationships leads to more abuse than age-gaps. Situations where one partner has all the (relative) economic ability leads to situations where women are exceedingly faced with abuse or homelessness. Alimony laws and the like exist for good reason and should be protected for these very reasons.
“Taking advantage of less experienced, younger, which is equivalent to dumber for some reason.” It is not misogynistic.
So… not misogynist, just infantilizing. Got it.
also very groomish too.
I only date women from 18 to about 24. It’s easy and there’s never a downside.
so only for 6 hours?
He dates dudes the rest of the day
DiCaprio on Lemmy… and running Linux in a Mac apparently. Who would’ve guessed.
And thinks artists speaking up about Gaza and donating concert revenues to charities that help Palestine is a grift (comment based on previous interaction, not history skimming)
I’m a night owl myself. I’d never be able to go on a date in the morning. I wake up at noon…
EDIT: Wait… No… Oh, goodness gracious 🫢
They’re married with 3 kids, not dating.
Was curious, so I looked it up.
They started dating in 2013, when he was 44 and she was 19. So she was less than half his age for 6 years of their relationship, and now they’re 57 and 32.
Their kids were born in 2015, 2018, and 2025.
Nice. At least he aint another DiCaprio
Gotta say, like honestly. If I was single and 44 years old and some reasonably smart 19 old woman wanted me, it would take significant willpower to say no.
I’m basically the same age and I would have trouble even wanting to become friends with a 25 year old. Can’t imagine dating or marriage or co-parenting with someone with that level of life experience. Make it 19 and it seems like a completely absurd proposition.
But it depends on what you want out of relationships. If you’re not looking for an equal partnership, a connection at an emotional and an intellectual level, then maybe what I’m talking about wouldn’t deter you.
Ewww my youngest is 17 and oldest is 22 and my middle child is 19! That is dating a child. What the fuck man. 46 here when I was 32 I was talking to a gal notice something was off. Found out she was 19, i nope out fast. Point is a 19 year old is not mature. Even though legally an adult by law, in reality they are still teenager’s and should not be dating a 40 year old. And this me having my kids mom being 20 when we had kids. Trust me it was not even ideal then when I was in my mid 20s.
Generally speaking, I completely agree. But in this particular case, she really kind of reined him in, as in gave him a lot of the stability he was looking for and showed him a lot of the support he needed, having grown up in a massively abusive household and such. Also, if you see them together, it’s clear that she’s wearing the pants in the family and he seems quite happy with that. But when it comes to age gap relationships, this is really the exception rather than the rule.
I would imagine it’s a different case when you look at it from the outside versus when you’re experiencing it. Not that I have experienced that. I have had the good fortune to have another leg to stand on, an existing relationship, the couple of times I’ve had trouble like that.
And I want to emphasize that saying no to such a thing is highly likely to be the correct choice. But those two seem happy.
The good ol 3rd leg. Congrats man
