cats@lemmy.world•Chickpea might come home with me one of these days
29·19 hours agoYay. Spent a lot of time taming the barn cat kittens so they could get homes when I was a kid…
Looks like a young version of our FuzzButts. We finally nabbed him off of the street about a year ago. He’s FiV+, so is somewhat isolated from our other cats. He’s still working on getting properly socialized with humans, but is a big sweetheart when he does relax. Can’t find a pic, but I did find this short vid of a mocking bird pulling his tail when he was still outside.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's keeping you from ditching the civilized world and living in the woods?
5·1 day agoThe wilds; they call… Pretty sure I could be a happy well-adjusted hermit, but my wife and family keep me from running off to amass my racoon army. I focus my energy on creating a backyard jungle that lets me pretend that I’m not trapped in suburbia.
That’s the sort of thing that would have changed the direction of an entire ancient empire…
Oh, wow! twinsies

Daww, so cute. Little Lily lost in the fluff
These two were also inseparable. Usually lil Eddie would also be in the snuggle. Here is Tobie enjoying Bobby’s wonderful fuzzy tummy. Bobby was a jerk that terrorized the other cats, but then we got two kittens and he became the best uncle ever… Tobie would always shove his face in Bobby’s tummy; even when Tobie got to be ~2x Bobby’s size.

News@lemmy.world•Utah will become first state to let AI examine patients and prescribe medication without direct human oversight
1·2 days agoI have a friend who had developed an expert system for scoring certain lab samples (for cancer). It was a very good system that had few errors and was used for a couple decades. Somebody decided to replace it with an AI system (undefined what sort of AI) and it ended up doing a lot of false negatives, so the lab got sued for missing a lot of cancer diagnoses. Friend’s final task before leaving the company was to update his old model and hire somebody whose primary job was to maintain the old model. On the other hand, a trained monkey (and I’m assuming a LLM) could have done better than the radiologist who looked at my CT scan and said there was no problem, when I could look at it with the basic software they put on your scan DVD and see a fracture across all but a few mm of my sternum. When a different radiologist looked at the scan, he also ID’d several other minor things to follow-up on.

Ya, I’m kinda torn… All the things you mention, but then there’s my ADHD which makes objects disappear from existence if I don’t see them.
