I’m ok not using cash. I just wish the constant shitty surcharges were not a thing.

And as far as olds struggling with online stuff, I don’t think that’s an age problem. I know many old people that are perfectly competent with online banking. Seems more like a personality issue to me.

I know many older people who are utterly clueless and incompetent with tech, and especially money related tech. I totally agree with you on the fees though.

I’m sure they are clueless. I’m just saying that’s because of who they are as a person rather than their age.

@PeelerSheila @wscholermann What really annoys me is some places that don’t tell you they have a surcharge for cards until you pay.

As in, the first you find out is when you get the receipt and see they’ve bumped up your $6 purchase to $6.12 without telling you.

Probably illegal, but there are places that do it.

And more broadly, I’d rather they add the 2% or whatever to their prices, instead of letting you know at the counter.

(And while we’re on the subject, instead of 10 cents extra for a little packet of tomato sauce when you buy a pie, they should just add the 10 cents to the price!)

Banks took away all the arms and bumped up the transaction fees on businesses. Definitely something suspicious going on there

I’ve been vaguely sick for like, a week and a half. I almost wish I was sicker, because then I’d have an excuse to opt out of things rather than trying to brute-force through them all

I wonder if this geomagnetic storm is setting off fire evacuation alarms in the city, or if people are just extra unlucky burning their toast this morning.

Croatia have got this shit locked up with this year. I’ve only seen final 1 so far but nothing else was half as memorable as baby lasagna. Though looks like cypress’s approach of “rent an Aussie” might pay dividends this year!

Finland’s song is pretty memorable too, I’ve only seen semi final 1. Ireland was good. But Croatia is the strong favourite.

Was supposed to go visit friends this weekend but the replacement busses will make the journey almost 4 hours one way.

Fucking hell. Was really looking forward to it as well.

Organised myself a car for the day. Organised my shopping lists…got to the goget bay…forgot the little swipe card thing.

An hour later back home and starting over again. Don’t try to do things before your morning coffee kiddoes

My reddit accounts got caught up in r/australia’s ban evasion AI nonsense and I got mega banned, no more helpful comments for people bad at google I guess. I liked being helpful there. It’ll give me more time to be helpful elsewhere I guess.

You’ve described my relationship with carsaustralia perfectly. Just with a bit of added snark towards Mazda diesels.

        What I think happened:

        • First account banned by AI for inciting violence on r/australia for technical discussion of BJJ. I appealed the ban.
        • Second account, I messaged the r/australia mods to ban the account so I didn’t get busted for ban evasion. Ban given.
        • First account has AI ban revoked. I eventually make a comment on r/australia, ban evasion bots see the IP or email address attached to the account matches their shitlist, bots go into ban evasion mode, accounts get permanently suspended.
        • I had about seven reddit accounts. A bunch of novelty ones made during lockdown.

Interesting. I’ve ban evaded a few times too, honestly. I got permanently banned from a sub about a video game for asking about sales, and eventually again on my next 2 accounts (basic variations of the same name, although I didn’t create them with the sole intent of ban evasion). I left when Reddit pulled their shit though, so none of my accounts were ever flagged

Honestly from a mod perspective though, I do understand it. We had one really determined troll on a relatively small sub (70k members) I modded who made dozens of accounts a day for about 6 months and it sucked. Reddit nuked their accounts for ban evasion after a manual report, but they take anywhere between 12-48 hours to reply, by which time old mate troll face has already cycled through another 15 accounts. I think my issue with bans is “permanent” bans. It just seems excessive to ban people for the rest of eternity over one or 2 comments with no avenue of appeal. I’ll admit that I’m guilty of this too, I have and will continue to permanently ban people in the future, but if somebody actually comes back and apologises (for some reason extremely rare), I am usually willing to at least hear them out

r/Australia is pretty well known as the place to go to if you want to be in a community where the mods are somehow bigger dicks than the users. r/Melbourne wasn’t that far behind them either imo (present company and the Melb DT excepted, of course)

Look it is what it is. With the API changes and IPO, I feel reddit has been circling the drain. Mods needing to use these bots is a sign of the end times. The new account created isn’t allowed to post anywhere due to age and karma, which’ll put genuine new users off IMO.

Rebel Yell came on just as I got to the last hill this morning, doggo kicked into gear and started galloping instead of his usual trot, and I ended up getting a PB. Sub 25m/5k, which I’m very happy with.

I know it’s literally light rail but watching how far the other states will contort a sentence to avoid saying ‘tram’ is fucking hilarious to me
