First night in a long time that I’ve had the door and some windows open at night to cool down the house a bit.

It took a bit of time for our lady to settle in this time as she’s been away for a year and hates the carrier - bit of hissing and swiping at her human before he left - but nothing a bit of churu knockoff can’t do to lift a kitty’s mood.

First point of order was bathroom, followed by a general investigation, then of course food (while I was rushing around tidying up and making my own dinner) - guaranteed cutest meows whenever food is involved - but I forgot then that I have to keep her out of my room if I open my closet, because she loves hiding in it and refusing to come out and there was more swiping and angry huffs as I tried to coax her out.

She’s pretty settled now though, headbutts and trills and all, and keeps coming back to sit on/near my socks, so I feel rather honoured 😌

She has definitely become sassier this time around, thought I’d put treats in one of her toys but it was just normal dry food and she went from super excited to instantly cold and uninterested and even hissed at me later when my leg inadvertantly brushed against her… but then she followed me into the bedroom and has been going in and out and I later heard her merrily crunching on the dry food. and she randomly mrrps at me and probably wants to play but It Is Sleepytime Now. Tomorrow I shall try and wear out some of her energy after work.

Her tail is so gorgeous too. Medium-haired cats are the best. Not too long to need frequent grooming, but that much more luxurious than a short-haired kitty

We had one like that when we were kids - smooth and silky on top and fluffy underneath. Kitty lived to 22 years old - brainless (for a cat) but beautiful.

I don’t know why my split system does this but I can’t change it from heating to cooling.

To get around it I have to go into my bed room and set that one to either heating or cooling with a remote then walk back into my living room and using that remote turn on the system and it’ll be set to whatever setting I used in the bed room.

If I try and directly move from heating and cooling the split system will double beep at me and won’t switch or turn on.

    Frustrating to say the least.

    Bummer

Feeling stressed out. The issue of this homeless guy isn’t solved - the services won’t help or come when he’s there, he refuses help, police don’t care because it’s ’public property’ or if they do he just walks away from a welfare check…

He’s raging and throwing lit cigarettes in an area of dried vegetation and wooden fences near houses. Really mentally unwell with violent outbursts and has aggressively harassed me before. And is now regularly drinking on the bench right outside the window of the room where I sleep - sometimes sleeping there.

He doesn’t want help, has possibly already been kicked out of a nearby halfway house for abusing others, and I’m afraid he’s going to start a fire or might attack me.

It goes against my morals but if I can’t do anything positive about this situation I’m probably going to have to start thinking of ways to repel him :(

I’ve been through this before. Council is pretty useless and I often get judged as if I was just being a bitch to someone disadvantaged (rather than responding to a threat). I can try but that leaves a trail if something were to “happen” to the bench.

It sounds foul and mean, but you must do the occasionally violence to protect yourself: see if you can collect a lot of melbcat’s dirty litter and rub it into and pour it over that bench.

Go one step further if you have multiple litter trays and leave one without cleaning it for a while, let the piss and shit rot a bit, and then smear it on the bench (gloves and mask for your own protection).

Alternatively, see about adding those detestable “anti-homeless” spikes as well, but that may stray too close to vandalism.

If possible, see if you can sleep in another room, and leave some abominable no-beat-or-rhythm jazz or Enya playing loudly at the window closest to the bench.

Call the po po and say your mental health is declining due to this man and you fear for your life and the lives of your neighbours, due to the lit cigarettes and dry vegetation. Blast him on your NextDoor app, FB suburb groups, and say you live in fear and perhaps some ballsy vigilante might intimidate him. Write to your local member and emphasis the danger of the ciggies and vegetation so close to local families and children.

Ha… the po po dun care. They seriously don’t. They have let so so so much worse than this slide. I won’t go into it but the cops and the justice system are absolutely fucked.

It seems that to protect myself I must become what I hate… a Karen. :( And morally it is a big deal to me. Normally I’m on the side of the homeless and opposed to hostile architecture.

        Ideas

I considered bleach, orange cleaner, liquid ass, and the cat poo is another good idea… but I don’t want to make him sick or ruin his clothes. I just want him to not do the damn things.

I tried to see if I could find one of those bolt on armrests that go in the middle of the bench but they don’t seem to be sold in Australia.

I’m looking at a solar powered floodlight that goes on with motion sensors but will have to work out how to attach it up high without it being a “fixture”. (Which could get me in trouble or evicted.)

Liquid poo and cat poo. I WOULDNT worry about his clothes at this point, if he is so mentally gone his clothes are the least of his worries. He’ll be more concerned with the stank. It needs to be something that is so repulsive that that bench is no longer a good place to stay. When they are that far gone, and the po po won’t do anything, then yes, go full Karen:

          • local council member AND their oppositions
          • social media groups for your suburb/council areas
          • flood lights motion sensor
          • something so stanky and repulsive

The flood lights is a good idea, and it can be attached “temporarily” without being a “fixture” - as in it can be and will be removed during inspections 😉

The actions taken need to make that bench a very very undesirable spot for him - go full scorched earth

If you are worried about getting in trouble, DM me and I’ll bring my cats shit and piss and do it for you. I’m serious, I don’t give a shit and will travel across Melbourne to make this better for you. I’ll buy the liquid shit on my own card and do that too. You shouldn’t have to put up with his shenanigans, with everything else you have going on.

He is choosing not to engage with welfare and help, so he has lost sympathy with me

I’ve got an actually evil neighbour who will take pictures and complain. She’s almost had me evicted for installing security cameras before, and I was denied permission for cat proofing because she’d complain, so yeah. Situation here is fucked.

I hoped these high conflict people would end up fighting each other but so far no luck.

If I had the financial security I’d be out of this godforsaken shithole years ago. It’s complicated

You don’t want to get into it. She starts physical confrontations and then plays victim, often successfully. I said Karen but that’s only now she’s come to some attention and dialed it back - I should have said Methany.

Got a bit shitty at work over being lectured about fucking image formatting (fuck Word, seriously) but got over it thoroughly by (a) having walked to work and back - big tick, (b) absolutely SMASHING through the backlog, and © clocking off on the dot - because I have much more important things to attend to very shortly! Everyone else can fuck off!

Also managed to survive nearly getting collected by some fuckwit speeding through Kew Junction after the cars finished turning, a good 20 seconds after the lights had changed and I was halfway across the pedestrian crossing. People do be getting stuck in dumb situations there. No death for me today, though - thanks, but nothing will get in the way of hosting my VIP guest!

Got home in time to do some last minute gardening (now). How good is it having the sun still up when I get home. Home - which has been nicely aired through all windows during the day. It’s a great feeling.

I’ve been thinking about some things I want to do next year. Sometimes I’m not the best at following through with things I want to do, but here are some goals I have and will try to hold myself accountable to:

    1. Develop some semblance of a routine, and make self-care activities (sleep, exercise, creativity) a non-negotiable part of my day.
    2. Get out of casual retail job before the Christmas period and have something better lined up.
    3. Make at least one new friend, and continue doing a social thing at least once a week.
    4. Run 5km without stopping.
    5. Consume copious amounts of live music and theatre. Alternatively, watch a movie once a week.

Anyone wanna share some goals for next year?

I’ve been rather hopeless with goals recently, but one big one for next year is finish my degree (whether I finish it well is another matter…), restore my balcony garden, and like you make exercise and creativity a more nonnegotiable part of my day. Easier to do in summer for sure.
