Summary

A 24-year-old man, Daniel Schmidt, was arrested after allegedly disrupting a voting line and assaulting an election judge in Orland Park, Illinois.

Schmidt reportedly attempted to skip the line, ignored repeated instructions to wait, and punched an election judge who tried to stop him, knocking off their glasses.

Other patrons restrained him until police arrived, at which point Schmidt resisted arrest. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated battery against a person over 60 and resisting arrest.

That’s one way to stop a trump vote, ask them to follow the rules and be curtious to others till they punch you in the face and get ejected from the voting location.

We need more people that can take a punchat voting locations. We only have so many old people.

I really hope I’m wrong, but I fully expect at least one shooting incident at a polling place today. I’ve seen multiple posts by redcaps claiming they plan to go armed, and they seem to be spoiling for a confrontation. I really hope everyone can stay safe.

Nowhere in the article does it say anything to suggest who he was voting for. In a population of 300 million there are gonna be some number of crazies in every demographic

      EDIT

y’all are loopy. I’m 100% team Harris, i even phonebanked for her - did you? All i said is that there’s nothing in the article about whether he’s a trumper or not, and there are some number of insane non-trumpers out there. If you think literally all people who aren’t voting for trump are sane, then you’re the one who’s insane. It doesn’t matter whether this particular person turns out to be trumper or not, the point is we shouldn’t jump to conclusions or else we’ll eventually wind up with egg on our face

This is a good example of keeping your mind so open your brain falls out.

No. The article doesn’t explicitly say what party he planned to vote for. That’s right.

Almost all instances of election violence have been committed by the same party - even the attempted assassinations. I’m sure there could be examples of violence from the other party but I’m genuinely struggling to think of any.

So if a reasonable person hears someone in an election line was violent they’re not going to think “well there are crazies on both sides, so yaneverknow.”

        Agreed.

Ive put so much time into lemmy but im realizing it may be best to start looking elsewhere.

The amount of people that are fanatically ignorant is almost suspicious. How can this be a representation real people? Is this place just a magnet for no-lifers? Surely people dont want to spend their time reading or discussing articles like “Musk is realizing how dumb he is”.

Its like looking at the dumbest possible representation of my beliefs to make me question if my beliefs themselves are dumb lol.

Felons can’t vote in the USA?

How can a felon be a presidential candidate but another felon can not vote for him?

I truly do not understand USA.

Easy. Laws do not apply to the rich and powerful.

I truly do not understand USA.

Just imagine three weapons manufactures hiding in a trench coat pretending to be a government, and you can work backwards from there.

Until the last decade or so, felons could not vote. Recently, several states have opened a pathway for felons to regain their right to vote.

Michigan doesn’t do cash bail anymore, so unless a DA pushes for a hearing to hold him as a danger, he may be out later today in time to vote.

I’ve been arrested before, and never was I out in fewer than 18 hours. That would not give him enough time to get back to the polls to vote.

I’m a little fuzzy on the rules in Illinois right now, since they got rid of bail, but I think a prosecutor has to request a hearing to have him held until trial. Otherwise he will be processed and released pending trial. He could, conceivably be out in time to vote today.

So if he tried to jump the line to vote, got arrested, and now can’t vote. Sound strategy.

If Trump claimed it was Joe’s fault because he punches elderly people in the face every day, 30+% of the country wouldn’t just believe it without question but would start claiming it immediately.

That means Kamala is to blame because apparently she’s been running the Biden administration.
