12.50 for some SR flour, Eggs and a bag of potatos. Thats what i get for going to coles. Has anyone ever been to Dandenong Market? was jelous of the 35 dollar fruit and veg box someone got last weekend from Preston market. Or is there a good online service people like?

If we’re nearby we’ll do the Dandy Market. It’s not cost effective for us to drive there just to go to the market but if we’re out and about we’ll go. Are you Paky way? I’ve heard good things about Garfield fruit and veg, and I think they’re online too. I’m more Cranbourne way so I go to what they call Market on the main street and I’m pretty happy with price and quality.

Market Europa is pretty good price for fruit and veg if there’s one near you. It’s close enough to mine that Dandy market is another 7km/30 mins. Dandy is probably better but effort counts too.

I can’t tell you how much I miss Preston Markets, even now. My oldest and I were a fixture there. Vendors knew his name/he knew them etc. We were there upwards of three times a week from when he was a newborn. The sounds of the market would soothe him to sleep when he was a baby. He had a tiny size 2 uniform of the taco truck that Ellie bought for him and he wore proudly out and about.

The few markets we have in Perth are more like Queen Vic than just regular weekly shopping markets.

Got a call back from CAV today about my application to have the rent increase reviewed, seems like it’s about a 30 day turnaround. Well since shit has changed so much I said it’s no longer necessary and to close the case but they were very helpful about checking that I knew my rights around vacating with 14 day notice etc.

I sent my intention of notice to vacate to the LL yesterday morning, no response so far, and CAV themselves advised that while the LL doesn’t have to respond, if they don’t specify how to return possession (i.e., keys) then really all I need to do is tell them how I’ve done it and then it’s the LL’s problem as to whether the property is secure or otherwise 🤷

Missed the opportunity to ask how exactly I can report LL if she starts listing the property for rent within 6 months of the vacate notice, but I guess I’ll find a way to call again if it comes up.

I just did a ticket at the new job and this is it. This is the sort of work I’ve been missing for the last couple of years. I don’t know if it’s because I was working with clunky software or what, but I just didn’t enjoy my last couple of roles.

This should have the same issues of finiky work that requires high attention to detail, but there’s something about this where I can get into a workflow to just get the work done and check it as well.

I’m not diagnosed with anything but it’s like this work tickles a part of my brain the way factorio or one of those games does for some people

And maybe next time democrats get into power they wont fuck around for 4 years. They had 4 years to lock the fucker up and they did nothing. Should be a lesson in that for all of us, seize the bloody day.

Biden could have stepped aside earlier and Dems could have had proper primaries. But hindsight, eh?

I don’t know what to think of Vance, honestly. He’s either 100% committed to Trump OR was clever enough to say what needed saying to get Trump’s endorsement. I watched a portion of the VP debate, and he was pretty sharp.

          His policies however…oh boy.

I walked Ted to Lort Smith for some vaccinations and bum fur trimming. He was a total champ. 🐈‍⬛ Never whinged or meowed, liked looking around when he was in his walker. Of course he tried to nip the doc and nurse. He loved seeing all the other animals in the hospital waiting room.

He is also overweight so he is on a diet of less food.

I used to have a competition with an old Italian fella on who could have the first ripe tomato of the season. Much to his disgust, I won more than him. He’s with God now, but I see his son around so now it’s a second generation battle. And I’m gonna win again this year! Next year I’ll pull my finger out and grow one of his plants from seed, because I wanna beat him at his own game.

Probably an overshare, but I'm angry

My grandma is too far gone with the religion and political stuff, and I think it’s time for me to stonewall her. She lives next door, which will make it a bit hard, but I don’t want to put up with her bullshit anymore. During COVID, she got so into religion that she tells us we’re going to hell for not believing. All day, everyday, she sits on her butt, watching YouTube videos about religion and people converting to her religion. She has not many friends, only goes to church and the supermarket, likes my aunt’s dogs more than she likes her own grandchildren and refuses to put in any effort with my younger cousins because their mother chose to keep in contact with her cheating father after my grandma and him got divorced. She doesn’t believe the priests or other clergy members could do anything wrong. Called Kamala a demon and said that she would make the US a communist country. And America will be saved, Trump is Christian yada yada yada. Absolutely no critical thinking skills whatsoever.

I know this situation well. She will not go to a counsellor, because she believes she is right and you and other non believers are wrong and influenced by evil. Put yourself in those shoes - would you listen to someone telling you to go to a counsellor to turn you against your righteous religion? (Rational person would not, but once beliefs get to this stage rationality has left the building). You will not change her mind. She will always view you with disdain. You have to accept this if you want to continue contact. Try to stay away from religious topics, but when inevitably she raises it you will need to brush it off and pretend she didn’t say hurtful things. This might be acceptable to you for the sake of maintaining a relationship. If it’s not, then the other option is to break contact. I know people mean well when saying try to empathise, but I have been in this situation and there is no solution that I know of. They will only come back if they decide it for themselves first. And very sadly, family is usually not enough of a motivator. The religious grip can be that strong.

this isn’t radical empathy, it’s knowledge and expertise gained from decades of study and interacting with close family members who were in a very destructive religious cult, think scientology

the point is to not use words or ideas that set them off

Spud wrote it out very well, I’m just going the one further step. You can get them to change their mind, you have to talk about other things.

Eh I just meant more I get the feeling of dread lol, interacting with people like that is so exhausting, especially when it’s a family member. If you can’t go low/no contact or don’t want to, then grey rocking is best. Don’t engage with political or religious conversation with them, and if they start it, then change the subject and give very little info about your opinions away.

I’m sorry your Gran is deep in it, it hurts. Remember to look after yourself too, and put yourself first 💜
