    I seem to have been cursed by smoke detectors. There is some humour in this one seemly being able to read a calendar.

      I need to move back to the heavy doona, I’ve still got my light summer doona on the bed and needed the electric blanket last night.

      As a bonus that means I will get to use one of my new (to me) fancy patterned flat sheets I was given, which will match the doona covers for the heavy doona perfectly. I have king sized wool doonas for winter & have moved to folding them between two sheets instead of using an actual cover, which is easier to change (especially because the covers have shrunk or something and don’t fit well). I like the patterns on my covers so I have cut and hemmed them to be the flat sheet on top and the two patterned sheets I was given will match them really well as the folded over top sheet.

      I’ve also moved to having flat sheets on the bed instead of fitted. I was getting frustrated with fitted sheets that had been cut without enough fabric on the sides and with dodgy elastic, so I was planning on making fitted sheets from the flats, but I have found that just using them as is has been working fine too so I think I’ll just stick with that.

        Flat sheets are my go to. I hate the dodgy elastic too. Protip - when putting a flat sheet on as a bottom sheet, tuck in the top edge first with a generous flap under the mattress. Then it is less likely to wrinkle into a puddle over the course of a week. EDIT: the bottom end tuck under can be a lot less generous and still stay in place.

        There is also the old time method of using last week’s top sheet as the next bottom sheet, so only 1 sheet per bed has to be washed each week.

          I found the sheets I have are not very generous with sizing for the flat sheets either, there was not enough fabric to actually tuck under at the top or bottom of the mattress. If it is an issue I will sew an extra length of fabric on to allow tucking, but so far it has stayed on well anyway.

              Well, not much from me. Mr Woof sometimes gets a bit enthusiastic in his rolling around and he’s been known to rip the doona off the bed to show dominance to passing delivery people, but so far the sheet has escaped unscathed 🤣

    I’ve taken the next step in reducing Microsoft’s presence in my life: I’ve just notified my mother that I’m cancelling my subscription at the next renewal and she will be back on the free plan.

    It is not much of a sacrifice as I still have full access to all the programs through both work and uni, but I won’t be paying them (which was primarily for my cloud storage). I might look at LibreOffice at some point, but the main thing I use is a complicated spreadsheet for my budget and it is highly likely something will break if I try it in a different program.

      LIbre office is good. It can do everything Office can but the layout is a little different so you may need to just find where some options are. It’s good to have Office in some form available as a backup

      You can load the spreadsheet in libre office and check it out for free. Load up a copy in case it fucks with the original and ruins your life.

        That’s the plan at some point. But as I do have access to microsoft office without needing to pay for it, so I’m not in a rush. I have some stupidly complicated formulas and conditional formatting in there, so it’s highly likely that something won’t translate across. I want to have plenty of time to play around with it when I do give it a try.

    The pumpkins have been hand pollinated and buds/leaves wiped down where necessary. There were a few more female flowers open so I hope I get some fruit.

    I weighed the remaining foil pan down with a partial brick to prevent the wildlife water from tipping over but given my area I’m now wondering if that’s a good idea… one of the druggie fuckwits could impulsively throw that right through my window. It would be on camera so I could get them charged and have proof I wasn’t responsible for the damage but it’s still not a nice thought.

    My stomach is so angry -_- Being stressed all the time just doesn’t help. Having another test today.

    So after saying this work laptop sucks, I could buy it off work for $100 because the SSD is starting to fail. Switch it out for a new one and it would be right as rain again. It might be heavy and power hungry, but a deal’s a deal

        I think I’m going to do it. I’ve looked at the specs and similar laptops, plus what they must have gone for on the refurb market a couple of years ago. I could probably flip it on Marketplace and make a buck even after replacing the SSD

            It will be good to have a self contained unit I can fuck around with. I have a PC in a server cabinet hooked up to a TV, but it’s not the most convenient thing to jump on and use. At least a laptop has everything you need to use a computer right there, so I could have something to finally learn Docker on properly

    Vehicle finances are worked out and I have a short list of vehicles to look at on Wednesday. Hopefully number 1 on my list will be ok (and still available) and I don’t have to keep looking. I don’t really enjoy looking at cars. Don’t tell the salesmen, but I’ll probably pay more just so I can get it over and done with.

    The one I am looking at is just out of warranty period and is sold through a Ford dealership that offers a three year mechanical warranty on the used cars. Would it make sense for me to skip the vehicle inspection in this case?

      I can’t answer you re the warranty question, no idea if third party warranties are any good (I steer away from them for consumer appliances). But I totally relate to you paying a bit more to get it over and done with. I think the seller for the car I ended up buying sensed that as well, I probably could’ve knocked another $500 off at least but I was so over it at that point. Slim pickings in the sub $8k range that I was willing to deal with.

        If I can get the trade in for near the top of the range on RedBook (its very low mileage, so I should) plus $500 off the advertised price I’ll be happy, but I’m going to try for a bit lower. I don’t know that my negotiation skills are up to that, but guess I’ll find out.

    I’ve been putting off getting my eyes checked for YEARS. I haven’t had an exam since I was in primary school. I’ve felt that I’ve needed glasses for a long time but haven’t wanted to pull the trigger because… Idk. There’s no going back once I officially know I need glasses or something? Anyway, I’m booked in for tomorrow morning, time to find out how cooked I am 🤓

      The test/prescription is paid for by medicare, you don’t owe the company a purchase of a pair of glasses, they’ll try. If you’re only on a weak prescription, you can order a simple pair of spectacles on Zenni for very cheap.

    I want to work, and yet no one gets back to me after my last round of applications.

    I need a freakin job so I can afford driving lessons so I can actually get a job as an animal attendant. Oh, but I need a minimum of 2 years experience to do basic sandwich making or retail ffs.

    I’m almost at the point of selling my soul back to call centre work, but thought of doing that again is making me fucking sick - tied to a desk and phone, unable to leave it, power-tripping team leaders and abusive, masturbating customers. UGH! I don’t think my mental health could take it.
