Taking more time off costs PTO. That’s how vacation days work, asshole.

Incoming article about PTO cuts in Meta…

Automation has never been about easing the load and giving people more time off. It is about the capitalist greed of more in less time and this less money

And to just outright state this means this guy should just fuck off please.

That’s normal capitalism. You don’t get more rights or free time off without a fight. Any improvement in productivity will simply lead to you needing to do more work (with the time that was freed up) or you needing to compensate for other people who were fired due to the company now not needing as many employees anymore.

Of course he would say that. But are there any actual productivity gains in the first place or is he just cosplaying. Most of the data right now seems to indicate the perceived velocity gains in lines written/PRs submitted are actually just unnecessary code churn. The time gained from coding is spent in reviewing instead.

But maybe Meta doesn’t do that. They probably don’t.

Yeah, I can make a feature without really bothering about it, just by prompting. It works, so I don’t really care that much, but the PR takes ages to both clean up for review and then review.

Oh, and it also burns on average 3000$ a month, which is with prices we have, that seems to average at about 1$ per 1mil tokens, so you’d have 10k+ down the drain, per month, if using consumer Claude API. The math just isn’t there, like how can they look at literally millions in monthly spend and say “Yeah, that’s worth it”. And that is before the inevitable price increase.

But whatever, I can increasingly see colleagues just giving up and sending PRs that have been probably only reviewed by AI, with AI written description, that a colleague answers to with another AI written review, that is then merged. There’s even someone who keeps answering to chat messages with AI - we do have it wired up, and it sends messages on your behalf, but it tags them as AI, so it’s really fucking obvious. And some do that even in DMs, ffs.

At this point I’m just figuring out what field will I change my career to, while burning thousands of dollars so a bot can do my job while I’m playing games or watching videos waiting for it. I get paid either way, so fuck that.

They don’t actually care if it makes employees more productive. What matters is that they can pretend it does and use this as a pretext to demand more work from them.

Maybe if you could convince your big boss the zuck™ to pay out dividends to all employees, your subordinates would actually care about getting more work done. Just an idea…
