Do you reckon high schools would 1. keep copies of year books from decades ago and 2. send them out to former students? I’ve been thinking about my high school years and don’t remember a whole lot about it. I don’t have the year books anymore and would be nice to take a trip down memory lane. I figure there might be privacy concerns or whatever, but thought it might be worth contacting my old high school and seeing.

High schools have a high chance of keeping a copy for archive purposes. They usually won’t send out their past copies as they’re limited in numbers.

It probably won’t be online due to privacy.

If you need help finding your year books might I refer you to some of the cave paintings that have been preserved?

But the river by the school has flooded many times since the 80’s. Odds are the cave paintings have been severely water damaged - if not washed away entirely in that time.

Oh also to add some schools in the interest of preserving history may digitise older copies to preserve them.

Can’t hurt to reach out to the school or alumni and ask.

I try not to publicly put my name anywhere I don’t have to, so my full name has no results. Baku seems to be a pretty common username, so not many personal results there, although I’ve definitely said more here/on Reddit than I should’ve. my Reddit username only has a couple of results, one from a shitty buzzfeed article that exploited my willingness to help a tourist for clicks, and the rest from dodgy reddit mirrors. And my discord username is, well, a discord username. there’s only a single result for it from outside Discord

I used that Google security function recently which goes off to see where you’re mentioned and it happily said nowhere. I have a blog out there with numerous photos of my face on it but there’s nothing linking my full name to it. I just Googled my name and found my Facebook profile though. This was using my shortened name which I generally use. Searching with my full name has nothing I can see. Weird… my Google account uses my name to post Google reviews and I’ve done a couple but they didn’t show up in a search.

Anyways… feeling pretty ok about my online presence. I know all of my email addresses have been compromised but there isn’t much I can do about that besides keep good MFA security and spam filters on those.

Never googled my username though, I only ever use this on reddit and Lemmy. I could do with a good purge though

eh…I’m old enough that social media wasn’t really around when I was young and doing stupid things more publicly. Now, my job makes me pretty public anyway, and there are very, very few people in the world with my exact name, so if you google it, only a few of us appear and the most public one is me. All professional pages, though.

I try to be invisible online under my real name. I mostly succeed. It helps that my name is common, so there are lots of hits and none of them are me. If I am ever suddenly a news story, the journos are going to have a hard time finding my Facebook photo (I don’t have Facebook) to steal and put on their sites. 😃

Moved to new apartment. Landlord proactively warned us that the oven, stove, the bathroom heater and hot water are on one circuit and to avoid using them all together.

Breaker for this outside of our internal switchboard and is only accessible by OC (not the landlord nor agent). From the message, feels like the landlord might have copped 3 days without power.

Friend just told it’s unacceptable/below standard. Going to email agent to get this fixed, any good references I can use during this argument?

(on another note, we wouldn’t have rented this place if we knew the parking space is going to be dark, dusty, musty, and hard to drive in/out. Am lucky we are driving a small car, because I’m fairly certain anything a Corolla Cross or larger won’t fit at all)

Sounds like it’s not compliant and as a landlord, I have to get electrical inspections done and issues fixed as a requirement. Just re-did the switchboard on my investment property recently and it cost $2k. You can ask the agent for compliance/reporting info on electrical and switchboard.

Managed through a property manager and a formal rental agreement? Hmm. I’d play this a bit clever. Intentionally trip it on days when you know the OC can get you back up and running. Over a week or 2 build up a report, when it tripped and how long it took to get resolved, then report to the property manager that it isnt safe/feasible to wait X ammount of time to get your power back.

That way if you gotta breach 'em and go before VCAT it helps you already have logs and experience with the issue.

Keep in mind, this is gonna sour the relationship with the landlord though. Be prepared to move in 12 months, but it doesnt sound like that’d be a huge loss anyway.

How come you moved out of your old joint if I might ask? Rent went up too high?

The place I’ve been in the past 3 years is annoying to park into and very barely fits a small SUV. Parking spots are generally gonna be pretty ordinary with apartments…

Yep, it’s 2k/mo for a 1bed. Now we’re 2k/mo in a 2bed plus a living room itself that’s bigger than the old place whole. And also so my wife’s parents can visit.

Fair enough, these days you do need to move a bit further out to get a decent deal. I know someone who bought a rather shabby 2br w/ parking in Carlton and rents it out for 550/week. Prices are nuts…

Landlord proactively warned us that the oven, stove, the bathroom heater and hot water are on one circuit and to avoid using them all together.

Seems that the circuit breaker is too small for the load, which I believe is against regs. I would check with an electrician that might point you to the right standards.

It does not seem right at all!

oven’s supposed to be hardwired OR have its own circuit so they’ve actually failed Australian electrical safety standards. Meaning that house fails minimum standards AND there’s no way that a sparky would have signed off on that, so it hasn’t had the mandated electrical safety checks done either.

EDIT: I think some hot water has to have its own circuit as well but I’m fuzzier on that deet. Oven wiring has been a thing for decades though so they have no fucking hope there.

Feeling terrible that it took me so long to notice Melbcat was still sick. When she was fussy about food I thought she was just sick of the usual, and when she was wiggly I thought she was jealous of the computer or bored.

I’ve been wrapped up in my own struggles, getting overwhelmed by literally everything, and didn’t pay attention as closely as usual.

Oh melbsy. Don’t beat yourself up about it. Cats evolved to hide their pain and injuries as best as they can. It’s one of their basic instincts. Cats also have off days just like humans, and some days they just don’t want to be held even when they’re perfectly fine. You did the best you could given the situation, and that’s all you can be expected to do

Oh, wow. So last week I explained the situation with my current school to the lady from the TAFE. She asked around and has been able to organise for me to start before my unenrolment is officially processed. I have missed the intake date now which was yesterday evening.

But she just sent me the enrolment paperwork I need to sign, and once I’ve done that, she said I can just organise a phone call with the teacher to catch up on what I missed and can start next Tuesday!

Holy fucking shit, it’s wild how things go from 0-100 so quickly. I was about 75% expecting to not start until the next intake, but it’s going to finally happen…
