I’m sorry, but this nonsense has to end. Women don’t realise how dangerous high heel shoes are for their ankles, back, and long-term posture.

I remember reading somewhere (cant find the godamn source for the life of me) that the risk of ankle injury increases by 150% for each cm added to the heel.

High heels are unnatural, dangerous, and uncomfortable. End this.

Eh… I wouldn’t recommend them for use during vigorous activity or on uneven ground. But they honestly aren’t that big of a deal for the majority of people. Around a cm of heel height is built into the vast majority of shoes. Most work boots and especially cowboy boots can have 3-4 cm of extra heel height without causing problems.

People with hyper mobile ankles or heels can be at higher risk of ankle injuries, but when people with higher mobile joints turn their ankles the sprains tend to be less severe. People with tight calves, heel spurs, hx of plantar fasciitis, or shortened Achilles can actually find high heeled shoes more comfortable than flats.

Everyone is different, just because you feel unsafe or uncomfortable in heels doesn’t mean everyone does.

My first wife could run in high heels. I always laugh at people bagging on that scene in Jurassic World. Yes, I’ve seen it done.

If she was going out directly after work, she’d sometimes wear them in the OR. If they needed a tool from a far repository, she’d run the 1/4 mile back and forth through the hospital.

My second wife couldn’t wear heels to save her life, looks like our 11-yo daughter stumbling around on 3 inchers.

        Skill issue indeed!

I keep seeing casual mentions of “positive experiences” with fascist companies these days. This hasnt happened before. New influx of people or paid advertising?

It could be nostalgia to the days those services where not overly fascist and still seeking to cater towards the end user instead of only making money for the shareholders.

At least that’s what this comment feels like.

Yeah, would make sense. Interesting too how vastly different perspectives can be on lemmy from one space to the next.

Some people understand that global warming, fascism and other dangers to humanity are real, others are deeply oblivious. Its fascinating.

What’s fascinating is how you turned “I bought this show a while back” into a political argument.

I’d argue a majority of the people on this fringe platform understand the dangers you name, but not everyone wants it to be the only thing they ever discuss.

She (or he, back then) also translated her entire comedy routine into German and performed it to native speakers in Germany to prove that humour is not language dependent. And then translated it into Arabic and performed to native Arabic speakers (in Lebanon, I think) to continue the experiment.

I dunno, it could be worse. I think it’s more the material than the style that’s clashing with the skirt and hose. That jacket matches the shoes decently, and some folks match those as part of an overall style.

Not my kind of thing, I prefer to match jackets with pants, and prefer jackets match skirts or pants when I’m looking at fashion stuff on others. But, hey, not my outfit anyway :), Suzy can do what they’ve always done and challenge fashion and gender norms.

It’s kinda their thing the wear stuff that pushes the boundaries of both, and that goal is successful here, if that was the intent.

Hah, found the 62-year-old in the thread! Calm down, granny - you’re old.

(I’m 53 this year, and I’ve accepted that I’m almost certainly past the middle of my life and into the downward slope towards entropy - you should give “acceptance” a chance!)

No future just die kind of old? No. But 61 is old enough to cause some physical problems for people, often making it hard to keep in shape - which is not the case here and that’s what we’re admiring in the pic.

No, this is patronizing as hell. Nobody sees 60-70 year old men in dress suits or tuxes and goes oooohhh, good job!!! Wow!!! Like wtf. What are women in their 60s supposed to wear, burlap sacks?

Why not? I do appreciate 60-70 men being dapper. Or older elegant women, why not? The exact style is not the point. When someone dresses to be appreciated and it works, I see it as a positive thing.

I help octogenarians at work everyday and am always stunned they’re that old. I usually peg them at early 70s. One guy was 82 and I swear he could have been 65. I think the look on my face when they tell me is compliment enough.

People just don’t look as old as they used to. Maybe that’s me aging, but I swear to god, 40 was the limit in my youth. Past that everyone became fat, dumpy and out of fashion, or more like, no fashion.

And these Florida women! I was dating hot and heavy a few years ago and had 3 gf’s around 49-52 that were absolutely hot, cute and fit. My wife is 54 and could pass for late 30s, but she’s Asian so that’s cheating. When I moved here, I was not prepared. A woman with gorgeous hair and a surfer’s body would turn around and be 70.

      Anyone else see this? Explanations?
