Can we find out who is controlling this puppet yet? And do something about THEM? Trump is not smart, you know he is not coming up with this shit on his own. You KNOW he does not even know where Cuba is on a map. I’ve heard he is functionally illiterate though. So who knows?

Cubans are suffering (from what I’ve seen). In my opinion, we should immediately end the embargo, enough. Castro is dead.

I also think that we should return Guantanamo to Cuba, instead of just deciding that it’s ours with a ridiculous “eternal lease”. Everyone on Earth can see that yes, we can dominate a tiny island whenever we want to. Yes, we get it. USA wins. Declare that in perpetuity instead of the lease.

This is one of those longstanding issues that remind us all how outrageously and openly unjust the US government is. Democrat or Republican, 70 years of “welp, what can we do? We can’t close it, sorry, it’s un-closeable. It’s a perpetual lease, you see. It would be illegal to close it!” (I know Obama “attempted” to shut it down, but let’s be real. Just stop)

Invading Cuba is an absurd abuse of power, but I guess that Trump got a call from the boss. Who’s the boss? Whomever demands that we squat on Guantanamo Bay.

It’s just “More money” for Americans. The whole “American dream” is a nightmare for everyone else. Americans will sell their mother for a decent price. A very disgusting society. And this is not Trademark of Trump, every fucking US president since Truman is like Trump, more ore less.

Alternative take: Trump got what he wanted in Greenland, so now he’s moving on to the next one in his bucket list.

I’m guessing Iran probably went a bit worse than he imagined or I have no idea what the point was there.

He didn’t get what he wanted in Greenland, he got something his people decided to spin as what he actually wanted, pretending it was some art of the deal bullshit all along and not him actually wanting something as stupid as taking over Greenland.

He got what historically the US would have gotten just by asking. It was the US that reduced presence in Greenland in the first place, they were never kicked out.

A “bit” worse than he imagined is an understatement. Iran is straightforward: a long standing problem in American foreign policy (indirectly caused by America in the first place) plus urging by Netanyahu. They had just proven to themselves that “fixing” Venezuela went way smoother than the naysayers were worried about and figured they could just do a quick killing spree and the regime would fall in line like Venezuela.

Venezuela is the only “told you so” they have, that military intervention did get America’s goals in Venezuela seemingly advanced. The value of that effort remains to be proven, but the general shape went according to plan.

So now they are thinking that Cuba might be a “told you so” scenario they could kick off to somewhat get the Iran in the background.

Yeah, could be, but then again, Trump has publically stated several times that his negotiation tactic is to ask for lot more than he actually wants so he can then “settle” and get what he actually wanted.

That’s like, a basic negotiating technique known by most for…ever? Except for Democrats, of course, they begin negotiations by conceding everything they actually want if you’ll just give them half of what they want.

Yes, that’s a very very basic negotiation strategy, anyone who has even heard of a car being sold knows that super basic thing.

However the Greenland situation is more like going to Walmart and demanding they give you a PS5 for free, and then Walmart saying “you can have it for $599” and then declaring “victory” because you never expected it for free, but you got the price you wanted. Except $599 is the list price and you didn’t have to every make a stink about wanting it for free.

Trump was never that ‘great’ at this sort of thing, but his old age has eroded his ability to have any sort of filter that would facilitate even trying to play things close to the vest. What he says is what he thinks, more plainly than ever.

I certainly think it’s risky (it goes without saying that it is also wrong). With Venezuela, it seemed you had a regime and populace that, fundamentally, were maybe mildly disapproving of US, but the regime was, in their hearts, pretty comfortable with corrupt arrangements and the Trump administration fits right in with those arrangements. Even an interview with one of the folks the regime unjustly imprisoned seemed at peace with the regime being intact, with a fairly “this sort of corruption is just the way the world works” attitude toward the whole thing.

The Cuban people have endured decades of the US working to actively screw them over, and may be less ‘pragmatic’ about the best way forward even if it means accepting wrong being done and may be more ideologically engaged to recipricate, even if it is likely not going to be a ‘win’, but at least make the US hurt for what they do.

The Presidency has enriched itself by billions of dollars now, this amount of corruption no one could possibly fathom a couple of decades ago. I shudder to think of what they will do next after they have broken countless laws, violated the Constitution numerous times, and have dropped any pretense about being white nationalist thugs.

They have been complicit and have not fought for the Cuban people the way they should have. Criticism is deserved.

They were not merely complicit; they actively supported policies that harmed the Cuban people.

JFK dramatically strengthened the embargo and made it comprehensive. Decades later, Helms-Burton effectively locked much of that embargo into federal law through a bipartisan Congress:

            • Republicans: 230 yes, 5 no
            • Democrats: 106 yes, 80 no, 1 present
            • Independent: 0 yes, 1 no

So yes, the degree of responsibility was different, but this was not simply a Republican policy. A majority of House Democrats voted to codify and entrench the embargo as well.

I am not a fan of Obama, but he did normalize relations. I was not able to visit, but some of my friends were.

Yeah, absolutely. Obama deserves real credit for reopening diplomatic relations and making travel and engagement much easier. It’s just that the underlying embargo still remained in place, largely because Helms-Burton had written so much of it into federal law. So Obama was working around a legal structure that Congress would have had to change to fully end the embargo, and I don’t know about you, but looking at the history of that law, I have no reason to believe democrats would have fell just short of a vote or two change it, and blame a DINO…

It is a disgusting that this administration is responsible for the the increased suffering of their people.

Totally. What Trump is doing is taking it to the next level, and the American people are letting him, because it doesn’t effect their day to day. Just like Palestine, Cuba was forgotten and left to suffer in silence until they could resist no more, and Trump being so stupid is at least putting Cuba back on the table. If only the average American would care.

How many democrats have you heard speak up for Cuba in the last 40 years?

It won’t work. MAGA is a classic cult of personality, and there is no #2. Lots of people think they are the heirs apparent, like Vance, Rubio, Hegseth, Don, Jr., etc., but that’s just their narcissim talking. Once Trump assumes room temperature, there will be attempts to claim the crown, but his base will evaporate. They love him, and only him.

And without that base, the rest of MAGA can’t survive.

No, Trump is trying to distract from his failures as a human being. He thought Iran would be easy - it wasn’t. So he’s going after someone he thinks is weaker to keep the distractions going & expecting the usual wartime support from “patriotic Americans.” He’s worn them out already & ain’t likely to get much, IMHO.

That would be the 3rd unprovoked attack on a country by the president of peace

      Way more than three.

Venezuela: In January 2026, U.S. forces bombed Caracas and captured President Nicolás Maduro after months of a naval buildup, oil tanker blockades, and anti-drug strikes in the Caribbean.

Iran: The U.S. carried out joint strikes with Israel (including Operation Midnight Hammer) targeting key nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

Yemen: The U.S. military expanded its air and naval campaign against Houthi forces in Yemen and the Red Sea to protect commercial shipping lanes.

Somalia: U.S. warplanes launched counterterrorism strikes against Islamic State (IS) operatives hiding in the Golis mountains.

Iraq and Syria: The military conducted airstrikes to hit ISIS positions and defend U.S. service members from hostile fire.

Nigeria: U.S. forces executed targeted air strikes against local Islamic State militant groups

After the U.S. invasion, the Coalition Provisional Authority under Paul Bremer banned senior Ba’ath Party members from government jobs and dissolved the Iraqi Armed Forces.

This mass dislocation of soldiers became the root of opposition to US occupation and eventually the core of the ISIS movement.

Incidentally, also a group the United States clumsily expended in their efforts to harass Iraq’s neighbors.

They didn’t just ban senior members, they banned every member from all kinds of public employment. And under Saddam, you had to be a Ba’ath party member to hold public employment.

That means that if you were a teacher or a bank clerk in Saddam’s Iraq, you couldn’t work as a teacher under US occupation. So hundreds of thousands of working people were thrown out of the economy overnight, and a small fraction that large number went on to form Daesh.

Nobody’s defending Daesh, who were scum. It is however a fact that Daesh came into being as a result of irresponsible US policies during the occupation of Iraq. That doesn’t absolve them of responsibility, but it illustrates that US policy in the Middle East has been cruel and destructive for a long time.

It is also a fact that the now-president of Syria who was recently invited to the White Construction Site founded a Syrian terror organization which used much of the same tactics as ISIS, became the Syrian wing of al-Qaeda (remember them?) and that he personally approved Oct7-style attacks on Israel (which were thwarted).

Is the US just trying to start wars

Yes. Ever since Zelelesky told Trump that Ukraine’s elections were suspended over the war he’s been desperate to get the US into a full-scale war of its own.

To add to this, I’ve always heard that if you can’t make money in a war your a fool. I mean look how much trump has made this presidency already with the shit he’s caused. Gotta feed the military industrial complex!

Like most autocrats, he’s just trying to get his country bogged down in as many emergency-powers humanitarian nightmares as possible to avoid going to jail.

No, he just wants people to stop talking about the Epstein Files. He’ll torch the world to achieve that goal.

Latin and South America need a mutual defense pact against the biggest security risk in the world.

Trump is teaching the World you need to have nukes to be respected.

And if South American nukes sound far-fetched, Brazil had a nuclear weapons program during its military dictatorship years. But willingly gave up on the program.

The trouble is that cartels are pretty ineffective at actually making things, they’re mostly only good at stealing things. So manufacturing weapons that are needed to fight the US feels impossible.

In a head on conflict, sure.

But the cartel violence has generally been against civilians, so that wild be on the table.

That said, they might not have the ideological commitment to incur the retribution. They may dislike such an offensive with the bad outcome for them, but they probably know revenge would be even worse.

But either way, destabilization seems a high risk over unclear benefit.

as it wasnt really the deciding factor in '24 with gaza incident, dint really make a big impact as far votes go only was useful in michigan with the large muslim population. it was gas prices, eggs, domestic issues.
