A lot of homeless people can’t work. But, for those who can, it’s hard to find a job when you haven’t been able to shower for a week, have no money to purchase nice clothing for interviews (let alone no where to keep these nice clothes), and don’t have an address which is often needed to secure either a job or benefits.
I have been homeless this year, and was lucky enough to get into a housing program. But my finances are still fucked, and I can’t work because of serious mental and physical disabilities. It’s a trap that is so difficult to get out of, and I’m very worried that I’ll be homeless again in a few years.
Imagine the toll this takes on a person, then add that this population is hated, derided, and repeatedly victimized by both the general population and the government/police. Imagine struggling with mental issues, and having all that you’ve managed to collect stolen from you every other week. Imagine having physical disabilities and being unable to run away from assaults. Imagine all of the above with the additional burdens of being a woman, a POC, and/or LGBTQ+.
Now think about how rough the job market is for people who have stable housing, and who meet the qualifications of a job, and for those who wouldn’t be a “DEI” hire in the age of “anti-woke”.
Empathy isn’t a weakness, it literally only means that you understand someone else’s plot in life. Being able to understand situations like or unlike your own is a strength, and it’s necessary to promote societal change. And that is exactly why conservatives hate it
It’s almost like conservatives are truly, deeply evil and building concentration camps to kill vulnerable people is completely on-brand for them.
Why so true.
Perfectly outlines the divide and conquer strategy.
And how they don’t care about consistency; they only say what they think will win the exact argument they’re having at the moment.
Their only consistent belief is that they should be in charge.
If conservatives didn’t have double standards, they wouldn’t have standards at all
“Guns don’t kill people, people kill people! Don’t do gun control, it’s all because of mental illness!”
“Okay, let’s do something about mental illness.”
“No!”
Black Panthers: Okay, we’ll arm ourselves to protect our neighborhood from racist cops/the KKK/etc.
Conservatives: No! You’re terrorists who should be extrajudicially executed!
I actually hate muslims but that’s because I hate any and all religions, they’re the exact same piece of shit with a different branding. That doesn’t mean that I think all muslims are bad, but for sure only a 1% of muslims are good, just as only 1% of all religious people is actually good.
Moral: Don’t put hating muslims in the same bag as being conservative. All of the conservatives hate muslims, but not everyone who hates muslims is a conservative.
true but also maybe a little goomba fallacy
TBF (should we be fair to them? They aren’t fair to us) this is a patchwork, not a single conversation, but all individual statements could’ve come from just one person.
The point is - at least that’s how I see it - all social posturing from fascists is just that. They don’t care about other people, or people as a whole. What they really want is perfectly divided in and out groups, with them being in the in group. Freedoms and advantages that only apply to them and repression that only applies to the out group.
