I would definitely prefer to live in less interesting times…
I’m not sure if I should hope for a quick or slow collapse. Can a house of cards collapse slowly from a personal point of view?
Thats kinda how it goes. Long buildup, a quick period of extreme changes, followed by a long aftermath.
Let’s just hope we don’t get a dose of thermonuclear war added to the mix. I’d rather play a nice game of chess.
90’s punks tried to warn us too. NOFX, drop kick murphys and Rage Against the Machine
I’ve dropped this Propagandhi quote on Lemmy before but I’ll take any excuse to do it again:
is this what we deserve
To scrub the palace floors
To fight amongst ourselves
As we scramble for the crumbs they spit up
Frothing at the
Mouth about the
Scapegoats that they’ve
Chosen for us
If they no longer
Represent us
Is it not our obligation
To confront this tyranny
Do, did, people call them punkers? It was always just punks where I’m from.
In German it’s common to call Punks Punker.
“Punk rockers” was definitely a thing. I read “punker” as a shortening of that.
I never thought about this before but yes. The Vandals taught me this.
I’ve only ever heard it at the end of that one Vandals song about rednecks: “I couldn’t make it as a punker.”
In the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie Casey Jones asks Raphael if he’s some sort of punker, and then states that he hates punkers.
I watched that movie WAY too much as a kid.
Dead Kennedys always spoke to me.
Soup Is Good Food and Kinky Sex Makes The World Go 'Round in particular.
DK was 100% the inspiration for this meme
Early 2000s punks were quite prescient as well.
Since we’re sharing. This is the song that 12 year old me first learned about Palestine and Zionism from.
The parking lot line is just. Well, fuck Zionism. Imperialism always comes back home.
That sketch had the most Lonely Island vibes haha that was a genuinely well done bit of comedy.
Lived it, and now in my 50s. We were right then. But thankfully more kids are right today.
Frank Zappa before that
Legend
19th-century leftists were pretty vocal about it too.
Reagan youth my beloved
“No future”.
They weren’t punkers, they were prophets.
