Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed’s former opponent in the U.S. Senate primary, Haley Stevens, stunned party officials Sunday by endorsing Republican Mike Rogers after Democratic tensions boiled over days before the election that could determine the balance of power on Capitol Hill.

Stevens endorsed Rogers after attending a Detroit church service with him. The remarkable show of support for Donald Trump’s backed candidate in the tightly contested race comes after she was uninvited to a joint event the same day with El-Sayed, who defeated the congresswoman by a slim margin in the August primary.

“Our Democratic nominee for Senate said I was no longer welcome in his campaign and that I should stay away,” Stevens said video announcing the endorsement. “And he’s right. And that’s why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today.”

They know how the saying goes, if they sit at that table with the Nazis, they’re Nazis, and we’ll remember that when the dust settles.

Nazis came in, and a third of the people did nothing when they sat down.

Non-voters are Nazis too, by that logic. Thanks for clarifying.

If they chose to not vote, yes. Not every non-voter chooses to not vote. Voter Disenfranchisement is a massive issue. Whether that’s severely limiting voting locations, hours, mail-in options, etc. there are millions of people that aren’t easily able to vote like they should and end up not voting as a result.

There is also the long game of under educating a large portion of the population so that many probably don’t even realize that there is an election going on or, if they do, how to register or who the candidates are.

Man, you guys are trying real fucking hard. Known shitbag has sour grapes and turns and suddenly she represents 85% of the democratic party.

        1. Get Republicans and Neo-Nazis out.
        2. Fix Citizens United
        3. Fix the Neolib/Corporate part of the Democratic Party.

One comes first. Haley Stevens being a shitbag doesn’t change that.

I would love nothing more than for Republicans to be rendered irrelevant and for the two parties to be replaced by the DSA and the neolibs. Just be a little strategic in how you go about that. (I worry you are being strategic, and it’s not for the benefit of DSA.)

You are right. We have to get the Neo Nazis out. But how many of todayz Democrats are pro-ICE, pro-genocide?

We have to recognize that we got to this point by compromising. Compromising with Reagan. Compromising with corporations. Compromising with genocide. “A fundamental restructuring of economic, political, social and religious institutions” is long overdue. If it is relegated to low priority, even for a ‘short term’, things will not get better.

The DNC is not a leftist organization. They do just enough to get our votes.

I’m all for strategic voting, but if something like the Working Families Party or even Sunrise Movement is in your area, they are better organizations to support especially if they endorse someone during the primaries.

      No endorsement from Gov. Hochel.

No endorsement from either NY Senator.

Disgraced former Govener Andrew Cuomo running as a spoiler candidate.

Andrew Cuomo being endorsed by Trump in the 11th hour of the election over the Republican candidate.

      Yep.

      establishment democrats

The problem with phrasing it like that, is the neoliberals can lose NY state party just like they lost the DNC.

“Establishment” is just who controls the party, which can be changed.

NY, Florida, Maine, California, there’s a bunch of state parties that neoliberals control. But as more progressive get elected, the more say they have in who leads those parties.

That election was held by the DNC under Jamie Harrison.

The chair Buden appointed, and then Harrison appointed Harris as the candidate.

The incoming chair saw that Harrison fucked it up, and said they were going to re run the vote.

Not campaign mind you, the ~400 voting members who had just voted for the chair and Hogg on the same ballot would just re-vote.

There was no reason for anyone to expect the result to change.

Hogg however, refused to sign a piece of paper that would have put him on the new ballot. He just refused to.

          That’s what actually happened.

And I can’t think of a reason why Hogg declined to put his name on the ballot, except he didn’t expect to win and didn’t want to win.

Because all he had to do to win again, was put his name on the ballot

Here’s an article from the same month Mamdani won:

      https://thehill.com/homenews/house/3841636-house-passes-resolution-denouncing-socialism-vote-splits-democrats/

The resolution overwhelmingly cleared the chamber in a 328-86-14 vote. The majority of Democrats — 109 of them — voted with all Republicans for the resolution, while 86 voted against it and 14 voted “present.”

I don’t think these guys just said this and didn’t plan to sabotage any social democrat campaigns.
