Trump’s rebranding of Lake Ontario was just the beginning of multi-day effort to provoke Canada
Donald Trump sought to escalate his trade war with Canada on Sunday afternoon and issued a demand on Truth Social that Canadian companies wanting to do business with the U.S. reshore their headquarters within its borders.
His latest remarks come as Canadian officials warned that the country was prepared for an extended dispute with the U.S. after trade talks collapsed and Trump announced tariffs as high as 50 percent on some Canadian goods including dairy products and lumber. Canada has levied reciprocal tariffs against U.S. steel, aluminum and other exports.
On Sunday afternoon, the president said Canadian companies should move their headquarters and production facilities to avoid newly imposed tariffs. The duties are set to begin in 2027.
Moving to the US sounds like a good way to have all your wealth stolen from you and go broke.
Even with tariffs, employing Canadians remains cheaper as wages are lower overall, and you don’t need to pay for obscenely expensive medical insurance for your employees in Canada.
I don’t think Americans grasp how uncompetitive their labour market is specifically because they don’t have single payer healthcare.
Companies have figured out that you can move to economically ravaged conservative hellholes and just not offer any benefits or sick time at all!
These same hellholes recently made it so even if you are completely broke and on government funded healthcare, you must work or volunteer for little or nothing to keep it! The labor force is shifting to folks working for minimum wage or less to keep up long term care, and prisoners working for third world wages, with the rest just trying to keep from joining the first two groups.
I mean… that’s why manufacturing moved oversees in the first place.
Yep. I remember as a teenager listening to Clinton blather on about how American workers can compete with any other workers anywhere in the world, and everyone cheered. No one had any doubts at all. Even as a stupid kid I knew that was a completely insane idea. Globalization was the start of the end for the US. We really arent a smart people at all.
Healthcare is almost always paid for by 1) the individual which is expensive, 2) the employer which is expensive or 3) through taxes which is expensive.
If I had a business in Canada the trade-off I see here is substituting high taxes for having to provide employee medical benefits, and how long I think the tariffs would stay in play.
That being said, tariffs on the Canadian side are focused on US production that happens in swing states. So the further escalation here is going to be politicized as geopolitical, in addition to economical, warfare. Who really benefits? Nobody. Who pays? Average people on both sides of the border.
Everyone in Canada is already in America… That was easy.

idiot
I believe he’s referring to the fact that Canadians belong to North America and people forget this and interchange the terms America and the United States of America.
To show how idiotic this statement is, here are the countries in North America
- Antigua and Barbuda
- Bahamas
- Barbados
- Belize
- Canada
- Costa Rica
- Cuba
- Dominica
- Dominican Republic
- El Salvador
- Grenada
- Guatemala
- Haiti
- Honduras
- Jamaica
- Mexico
- Nicaragua
- Panama
- Saint Kitts and Nevis
- Saint Lucia
- Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
- Trinidad and Tobago
- United States
Is he turning his attention back to Canada because he’s upset at losing to Iran?
He’s trying to turn your attention to it.
He’s afraid the Epstein files are finally going to hit the streets.
Whoever murdered Epstein must be feeling really dumb right now, given that basically nobody in the riles faced any real consequences.
I hope that Canada’s intelligence agencies release the PDFiles. Trump and his lot need to be dragged into their swamp and drowned by it.
Clearly he needs that big dopamine hit again like when he was on stage for the World Cup win, or when he won that Nobel Peace Prize, or won that fifa world peace prize…
I feel myself die,
When verbal diarrhea,
Spews out of his mouth
Doesn’t hold the cards,
He thought this would be easy,
Never a thank you
So Stephen Miller and ICE changed their minds about immigration?
He is so astonishingly stupid.
“They’ve been ripping us off for decades, and it’s going to stop.”
Just once, I want to hear him back up any of his insult-claims with evidence of any kind. If a reporter pushes back, they get, “you know, you really are a stupid person” in response. Never any explanation. Canada has been ripping us off. Venezuela ripped us off. Everyone ripped us off, apparently, but I have no idea how. Just once, Donny, for the history books.
Accuse others of what you’re guilty of.
Trump is a fraudster through and through. He accuses everyone else of ripping off the US because he’s ripping off the US.
those nations aren’t, never were.
dipshit donny is the one ‘ripping us off’… all of us.
When a dotard like donnie the dumbass hears a term like “trade deficit”, he assumes something untoward is going on.
But that is probably one of the most idiotic takes one could have. But donnie is not the only one…
The comment by Freethought is interesting:
… Forty-two percent of Canadian manufacturers have already moved, or plan to move, some or all of their production to the United States, according to a May 2026 KPMG Canada survey. The survey found that 29% have already shifted production south and another 13% plan to within the next two years. Something tells me Trump already knows this, and when this becomes public knowledge, he will falsely claim it was all because of him.
It’s the same thing he did with egg prices. A Bird Flu outbreak drove prices up. Trump did nothing. The outbreak died down, thanks to responsible farmers, and prices dropped. Trump now brags that his administration brought egg prices down.
Just like when he took credit for Walmart price drops?
Just like when he took credit for the state of the economy within months after sleazing his why into the white House the first time?
Trump now brags that his administration brought egg prices down.
Wait I thought it was because that stupid bitch he has in his cabinet told everyone to raise chickens in the backyard that they don’t necessarily have?
Trump demands ninhi ninhinhi ninhinhi or ninhi ninhi
why isn’t anyone bringing the 25th amendment to the floor?
Because he is still a useful idiot.
2nd.
That’s what happens when you ask the Republican party to police themselves. Let’s see if anything changes if the Democrats manage to grab a lever of power but there’s been a lot of institutional damage
That’s right! Companies based in Canada better move to the US or face… deportation???
To all Canadians:
The only way we’re not going to end up another victim of this lunatic and his kind is if we all act, every one of us. I still see Starbucks overflowing. I still see people porking out on McDonald’s, Popeyes, Wendy’s. People still filling up their baskets with Coca Cola and Lays potato chips.
What the fuck, people? We did way better when this when this all started, US produce was rotting on the shelves. He’s literally attacking us now and I would hope that could at least get us back to that point.
You. Yes you. Stop. It’s not just a coke. It’s not just your favorite fries. It’s evidence that your dependence on US crap is too high and needs correcting.
Most of that crap is just licensed American IP produced locally. Cutting it out isn’t even going to be as impactful as other things and will harm local manufacturers and suppliers.
Boycotts need to target direct things. People have been making those choices at the grocery store quite effectively. Liquor and oranges. Web services need to be the next target with government support. Tax Netflix and friends into paying into our culture as they always should have been.
Not just a boycott, it’s a buy Canadian thing as well.
Why buy from the place sending fees back to the USA when you can buy from a purely Canadian company?
Good luck convincing all those Ontarian auto workers to stop buying “american” cars.
I don’t care myself, I don’t buy none of that shit. Just not helpful to target people who are probably on your side.
Don’t forget Tom Hortons is US owned now and if that’s not enough maybe their Harry Branding on everything right now can help, I see Tim Hortons Harry Potter trash all along the roads lately.
Yeah Tim’s is another chain that’s been Americanized for sure. Both in ownership and the way they ratfuck customers with inferior service and quality now.
A&W, Bar burrito, local independent joints… That’s pretty much it for me.
Also something I don’t hear said enough is: with boycotts, anything is better than nothing. If you really can’t live without Coca-Cola, that doesn’t have to stop you cutting down on everything else. Just making the small effort on the shelves to check the label goes a long way.
Lol, all the USA exports is junk. Social media that’s bad for us. Food that’s bad for us. Drinks that are bad for us. On an individual and societal level.
I like fender. But basically its only registered in the us. Made in china et. al.
At least of partial blame is all the franchisee’s of those fast food places claiming “100% Canadian owned and operated” (I’ve seen these signs) and people falling for it, meanwhile they tithe back the licensing fees for the franchise.
100% of profits expatriated!
From my brief research it seems it’s about a 50/50 split of profits (corporate measures in gross revenue though, so no Hollywood accounting to get out of it), and a large chunk of the corporate half goes to advertising.
